Took a chance on a table on a Wednesday early evening and got in, having never tried Greek food before. We were sat in a window situation which was good. It was ground floor and accessible by wheelchair users. The atmosphere inside was okay, not buzzing, but comfortable and as comedian Mickey Flanagan would say, there was a nice ambiance. Other people were sat nearby but conversations were politely kept private and not noisy. We were attended pretty well by a young lady waitress who was friendly and polite. She gave advice on some meals available (me having never eaten Greek food before), took our orders and in very little time our food began arriving along with the drinks we had ordered. Food was hot and full of colour and flavour, if a little over whelming with the taste of sage being a little strong. Good, good, good so far. Then, towards the end of visit, I needed the restroom and found them right at the back of the premises... not friendly to wheelchairs as there were steps to navigate that had some obstructions. The toilet doors would not accommodate a wheelchair well and the inside of the toilet, while pretty clean, would pose a few issues for disabled persons. However, all is not lost since there was a dedicated toilet for disabled on the ground floor which I did not evaluate for suitability. Lighting, while cosy for many, would pose a hazard for visually impaired people. Returning to the food subject... navigating from the front to the rear of the building I passed a display counter where a number of items were fully visible, that included trays of pre-prepared and cooked foods (some of which we had ordered and eaten).. telling me that foods were not really freshly cooked, but mass produced and heated on demand. The most disturbing aspects of food storage was in a confined display unit where cooked foods were placed near cold/chilled foods: where meats were placed next to desserts and with little consideration for vegetarian/vegan people who would visually encounter a lot of meat on display. Something of a contradiction really, since there was a proportionate selection of dishes available on the menu for vegetarians/vegans. Though we enjoyed the meal for taste, volume of food and value for money, and enjoyed the range of foods available for all including vegetarian/vegan friends, the negative aspects were a little too much for us to commit to giving the Arnie line.. "I'll be back"... frankly, I don't...
Read moreVisited the restaurant on a Tuesday evening for my birthday dinner. Being Greek I was really looking forward to it. There was a party of 8 people and another couple in the restaurant, with one waitress and the one staff member in the kitchen. The majority of the main meals were already prepared and portions heated, etc. The waitress seated the 4 of us at a strangely arranged table on the mezzanine level, where two people sat side by side and another two at each end. Not really conducive to 4-way conversation, so we asked if we could move to a table where two people could sit on opposite sides and talk. The waitress took our drinks orders and gave us menus. After a few minutes she came back with our drinks and we weren't quite ready to order, but it was quite some time before she came back again to take our order. By the time we got our meze, two of our party had finished their beers and requested more. More were brought with the empty bottles being left on the table! We received our main course and we were then largely ignored. We had placed all the empties at one end of the table and they remained there until we asked for them to be cleared. There were a couple of other tables who came in, ate and left while we were eating our mains, along with a number of delivery drivers picking up home delivery orders. We had finished our food and there was only one other couple in the restaurant and we waited and waited for the waitress to come and clear and take our dessert order, but nothing. In the end we had to go and ask for the table to be cleared and the waitress came, started clearing the table and held her arm out across the front of my husband and waggled her fingers to indicate that I should pass my plate across! We eventually managed to place our dessert order to go, but my husband had to go to till and ask for the bill. All in all, it was a disappointing evening, as we were so looking...
Read moreWe were looking forward to having a meal at Greek Flavours today, but unfortunately we were left feeling disappointed. Maybe we visited on a bad day?!
Greek Flavours is a small but very noisy café - even when it's not full of people! We visited mid afternoon - so after the lunch rush, but before the evening rush. There were only a few tables occupied, but there was a lot of noise coming from the open kitchen. This didn't make for a very relaxing meal, but it was okay.
The food was nice, however I can't say it was anything special. We shared flogores me feta as a starter. There was plenty of it and it tasted quite nice. I had a chicken gyro for my main, but was very disappointed with it and left a lot of it. The chicken was all tiny, little bits - scraps! My fiancé had halloumi gyros and dolmades. His comment when I asked was a lacklustre "it was nice but... I can't really say any more than that". Again, not bad, but nothing special...
The server was a nice, young girl, however the service was shockingly slow! The girl clearly couldn't manage everything on her own. We waited a long time to have our order taken, until we ended up having to ask her to take our order. The food was slow to arrive. We asked for another drink each at one point, but they never arrived! We ended up just going to pay the bill and asking them to leave the drinks. Sadly we were fed up of waiting! We didn't stay for dessert for that reason.
Again, perhaps we just visited...
