The food at Turtle Bay Swansea really let down the whole restaurant. The waiting staff were absolutely lovely as were the bar staff who did everything they could to make our experience really nice, but the kitchen let it them down massively. The food took nearly an hour and a half for it to come out. We were warned that there was a 40-minute delay on the food but after an hour it got excessive and then we had to continue to wait even longer... The cocktails were made really nicely and we enjoyed them whilst we waited. When our food finally came out lots of it was cold as it had been sitting waiting on the shelf for the rest of the food to be made. We were a party of seven so I understand this as larger than normal but it's still not a huge table size. The jerk chicken wings were absolutely soggy in a watery sauce which we actually left and didn't eat. The Kingston Fried Chicken came out cold as did the squid which meant that it was all tough and chewy. We spent nearly £250 and everything felt mediocre and rushed. A service charge was added onto our bill automatically which we thought was a bit cheeky after such a fiasco. We left it on there as we felt that the waitress deserved it after all of her running around, but actually the restaurant didn't warrant it as the food was atrocious and the kitchen was slow. Read moreCame to Turtle Bay on a off chance, after the restaurant we wanted to go was unexpectedly closed. From a prestigious chain such as Turtle Bay, I would have expected fast and efficient service. However, unfortunately as I am writing this I am still expecting my main course, 1hr and 30 minutes after arriving at the restaurant.
So far we have received our starters. I ordered the Garlic Flatbread, but when it arrived it was cold, which was very disappointing considering I had been waiting 45 minutes for it to arrive.
After a further 45 minutes the Main course did arrive. As I was positively starved by this time, it only took me 4 minutes to consume the meal. Overall I have no complaints of the Jerk Salmon, despite the time waiting. The Salmon was over done but one cannot expected too much from a chain of this kind.
Overall I'd say I'm mostly disappointed with Turtle Bay Swansea. The trouble with an open kitchen is of course that the customer can see the two microwaves that you are heating their food. And this will then lead them to question why it takes 1hr and 30 minutes for food to radiated in such a manner. However, it's not all bad, the waiting staff were friendly and attentive and even informed us that our Brixton Pints maybe more foamy than we had perhaps expected.
Despite being only one of a few places I've seen with Red Stripe on Tap, this will not make up for the extended period of time for food and I will not be returning to Turtle Bay Swansea. Don’t get me wrong I know restaurants are busy especially on Saturday nights. But this place takes it to the next level. We arrived around half 8 to a quiet place not many people in. Waited 10 mins to be seated, not so bad really. Sat down had our drinks order taken within 5 mins. waited then 35 minutes before I was able to flag down one of the waiting staff! As they were all either talking by the pass or nowhere to be Seen. To be then told the waitress who sat us and was serving the area we were sat had finished her shift a ‘little while ago’ and that another colleague was now looking after this section. So she not only didn’t inform her colleague of tables that have been served or waiting to be served. He didn’t bothered do the rounds and check on any of his tables literally 5 tables of 2!!!
To top it off we were greeted with oh we are out of a lot on the menu tonight so she crossed off what they didn’t have on the menu. That’s fine I can deal with that but by the time we were actually served half our order then had to change because they had run out of more options as we were waiting!
I have been a restaurant manager 5 years and to me this service is out of order if my staff behaved like that they would be told to go home! If I could leave zero stars for service I would
