Gussto Tapas has been on my list of places to eat whenever I go to Durham. That is it was on my list until this last visit! Where to begin: Quality of food is not what it used to be. They now add a 10% service charge. This isn't mentioned on the menu and only comes to light when you receive the bill. Waitress said it was optional and could be removed, but point is a service charge shouldn't come as a surprise at the end of the meal. When I went to pay for the meal I was told my credit card didn't work so i gave them a second card. But when I checked my credit card statements a few days later I found that not only had they charged both cards, but they added an additional £8.60 to the charge on the card they said didn't work. When I tried calling the restaurant to get them to cancel the duplicate charge I was told I'd have to come into the restaurant - not so easy since I had returned to the USA by then. I now have my credit card company trying to sort out the overcharging issue. Their website has a section contacting them in writing, which I did, no response. Needless to say Gussto Tapas is off my list of places to...
Read moreTook my 5 years old grandson to Sunday Lunch in Durham at Gussto tapas bar, and it was delicious, we both had roast chicken, it was done to perfection, my partner had the beef, and he said it was perfect, broccoli and carrots, with mash and the most lovely roast potatoes and the biggest Yorkshire pudding I had seen it was crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, my grandson likes a lot of gravy so I asked if he could possibly have some more, the waitress was very friendly and came back with a gravy boat full for him, also although he had a child s portion it was still a large plateful, the 2 waitresses were very helpful and friendly, the place was beautiful and clean would recommend here for Sunday Lunch to all my family and friends, also had a sweet, cheesecake and ice-cream, it was also very good, price was a bit pricey but it was well worth it concidering what you got,a lovely place lovely food, and good professional service...
Read moreFood was okay, all perfectly edible but not amazing. Not much chicken and chorizo, or anything in the paella - two pieces of chicken and maybe 3 pieces of chorizo, and most of it was a tad bland and bit stingey with portion sizes. The texture of the chorizo croquettes were mush inside. Service average - wasn't rude or anything, but wasn't particularly attentive, either. Liked the decor. Was not busy at all when we went in, only one other couple at the other side from us, so no atmosphere, really. To be honest I prefer the food, service and atmosphere of Tappas Factory, if I were to choose between the two. Better value for money and better taste. Maybe it was just because we came on a very quiet bank holiday day, but overall it was a pretty average experience. Not bad, but lacking any real 'umph' to make me want to go...
