Always happy to try new places in the west end, and this was solid – just what you want from a place styling itself as "French bistro" cuisine.
The moules starter had lovely fresh mussels and a nice white wine and cream sauce. Some parsley wouldn't have gone amiss. Bread was provided but, as I'm GF, I stuck to the crustaceans.
Steak frites has to be be something any bistro is capable of. I asked for my steak rare (pink) – it arrived slightly over that, but still OK. Beef was tender.
The peppercorn sauce was lovely, perhaps overabundant. But the fries were very good, skin left on for a bit of extra crunch. Although somewhat over-salted – leave that to the diner to choose.
We ordered a side of green beans with the steaks, but I'd expect at least a nod to a salad, even just a handful of leaves, with this dish.
Portions were generous enough that half a starter and a main each meant we didn't want a dessert.
The wine list is brief, but decently-priced. We were lucky enough to pitch up during a photoshoot and were offered a glass of wine each that had been used as props, gratis. Salut!
Service was a bit hesitant at time, though that's understandable in a place that's just opened its doors. The individual servers we interacted with were delightfully helpful.
Overall, a decent choice for an unfussy, informal and relaxed meal in the west end, and sensibly-priced.
Expect to pay £30-£40 per person for two courses plus...
Read moreNewly opened and as another review says it shows. Seated quickly. Offered a booth which sounded lovely but was actually a banquette against the back wall. It’s a bit like going to your nana’s house as there must be 30 cushions along the length of it. I had to move 3 just to get seated
As I said the staff seated us quickly and just as quickly forgot we were there. We had a movie to get to so in the end we had to flag a waitress over to take our order. For 2 of them looking after just 9 people that shouldn’t have been necessary. Ordered bavette which was very nice. When the waitress came back to check in we asked for mustard, she seemed a bit perplexed but announced she’d seen some French mustard about. What she brought was French’s, the squeezy bottle you put on a hot dog. If you guys are going for the classy French bistro theme get in a range of Maille mustards. They do them at the Co-op down the street
Will be back as good food and wine at reasonable prices. The front portion is a bar which looks like it would be lovely to sit and have a pint in. The restaurant is in back with a view out to the cobbled lane...
Read moreCompete car crash. Had dinner at 5.30 on a Saturday… waiting staff were very scarce. We both ordered steak frites which looked nice and was described as a rump steak on the menu, we also ordered a side of green beans each. Food arrived and we were dissapointed that the steak was actually a rather cheap ‘minute steak’ cut. Of course with it being so thin both were very well done and not he medium rare and rare we asked for. The beans were completely raw. After trying to flag down the disappearing waiting staff someone finally came over and we sent everything back. The food returned beans still raw and steak mildly improved. Staff disappeared again after that and we had to go to the bar to order more drinks. For the money, this place is terrible for food as the quality and service is just awful. Might be back in for a pint someday but never...
