Was in the west end for a pre gig meal.. After passing a few restaurants, this one stood out. Checking the menu and looking at the atmosphere inside, we decided to go in and give it a try. It was reasonably priced. I'd never tried Thai food in a restaurant other than what I've made myself so I had high expectations. It has a basic setting. Very canteen like with open kitchen at the back so you can see staff prepare and cook the food. We took our seats and sat. Staff was nice and given the menu and asked for a cider to start (wow, only bottled and the smallest bottle you could get at the dearest price). Okay, let that pass.. We ordered food. The green Thai curry was just okay and not spicy or hot..loads of it however but the chicken was tasteless perhaps pre cooked and very chewy and leather like as if added cold to the curry and not cooked with it (and whats with the carrots!?)..I ordered the Nua Yam Taley..beef rump was freshly cooked..tho the beef had slight hint of being off on the edge strip and it was cold as if it had been sitting a long time..the bowls are cold? Is that why it was cold by the time i got mine? Or was it the bistro salad leaves and sliced lettuce it was sat on? Or is it supposed to be cold..Rice was a bit cold and not steaming hot like you expect..vegetables in food, I never expected to see in Thai food..however the flavour of my dish made up for this slightly, but it was just okay. We paid for our meal and service charge. We left slightly underwhelmed, and I didn't exactly feel I had a good experience eating in an authentic Thai restaurant..didnt have time to complain, which I would normally do, cos we had a gig to get to...hit or miss?..maybe give it a miss..I did notice there were food couriers outside and the kitchen door open..cold food? Maybe they prioritise takeaway than...

I've been dining here since it opened and I can't help but compare with Ting Thai Caravan in West Nile street (Which is 5 star in my humble opinion) Staff would do well to take a leaf out of the West Nile street branch in terms of service, food and ambiance. I've dined at the Byres road branch on a number of occasions and each time there's been something amiss. Was there last night with four friends, two green curries (One friend had to ask for his curry to be topped up as the portion was significantly smaller than the other) I had Mee Gratiam with beef as did a fried and my other friend had the same dish with tofu.
When the drinks, all soft, were brought to the table the waitress popped a can of coke which fizzed all over my face and top, she did apologise but this is definitely a rookie mistake first off (Popping a customers can, we were all clearly adults)
My Mee Gratiam was greasy and although I ate the lot by the time I got near to the bottom of the dish, which is usually a broth like soup of all the ingredients I was met with a puddle of grease.
I find the staff distant, unwelcoming, inattentive and when I went to ask for our order to be taken the staff member I asked was more focused on his smart phone than responding to me.
This has been a theme and only one example of the Byres road branch, such a shame as I happen to also dine at West Nile street branch where the experience has me returning regularly as it's the best Thai food in Glasgow. I said to my friends last night the greasy Mee Gratiam and getting a can of coke popped open and splattered with (Not a lot but still left me reeling a bit) made up my mind I won't be back...

Pictured is a good cross section of the type of food to expect (Iâm not going to name them as they are in Thai and incredibly hard to remember/ order) but you can get a mix of finger food to share, hearty curries using chicken, beef or pork and rice / noodle boxes topped with well seasoned meat and veg.
I personally have a trade off between flavour and speed, if it doesnât taste the best but it came in 5 minutes flat then that makes me happy. The longer it takes the better I expect it to be.
This food came all within 5 or so minutes and tasted great. Not the most wild of flavours (e.g not incredibly spicy) but not under seasoned. My beef was a bit chewy but besides that canât really complain.
The staff are friendly and happy to help, though the place in general gives off quite a âhipsteryâ vibe. I canât quite figure out why but thatâs how I feel when in there.
Overall good for a quick meal with acquaintances / friends / family, not fine...
