I visited the restaurant side of this fish & chip shop that is adjacent to the take away section whilst on holiday this week, it was raining & I was starving, but i really wished I hadn't of bothered now as with the exception of the young girl that I paid before leaving, I found it an utter disappointment.
I read all the google reviews beforehand & was so excited for my first taste of Norfolk fish & chips, i arrived & waited for somebody to tell me where to sit but in the end I asked some extremely miserable lady, who just stared at me, shrugged then nodded when I asked do I just sit anywhere!
I found a clean table & looked at the menu that was on the table, then I just waited & waited for somebody to come & take my order, it was virtually empty in there & no reason for the long delay, in this time several people came in & got served straight away (regulars I presume), a lady then come & took my order of haddock & chips with a diet coke, my drink arrived with a warm glass, then my meal arrived the same time as the other peoples that all looked massive compared to my meal, from the same lady who was also doing the cooking, the fish was as dry as turkey & very thin, the tiny amount chips stone cold & hard plus dry bits, then when I had eaten almost half of my fish, my next mouthful came with a lovely long fair hair glued to the underneath of the fish batter/skin, DISGUSTING, I put my knife & fork down & left the rest, I then put my coat on & paid as I left, I wasn't even asked if everything was ok, very overpriced for what you...
Read moreOn holiday and fancied fish and chips for lunch and chose this chip shop as it appeared to have good custom in the cafe. Typical seaside establishment trying to seat as many people into one area gave the feeling of being cramped and only a few inches from the family of 4 on the next table. The server came to take our order and I chose a small haddock, chips and peas and my other half had a large cod and chips. The wait was quite long for saying it was a chip shop as well as a cafe. When the meals finally arrive the batter on the small fish was pale (I should have sent it back straight away) and when I cut into it most of the inside was soggy uncooked batter. Hubby's fish didn't look too bad but still ought to have had a few more minutes in the fryer. The chips were a mix of pale newly fried and darker previously cooked chips (the latter being nicer). The pale coloured chips seemed quite hard which makes me think that the oil wasn't at a high enough temperature. I can honestly say it was the worst fish and chip meal I've had ever! I find it difficult to understand why someone cooking fish and chips day in day out cannot serve perfect...
Read moreFirst time eating at this fish and chips as my usual has now shut down since i last came, i heard good things so thought i would give it a try however the experience has been awful and ruined my partners weekend away. At first even when we ordered the food i got the impression the waitress was rather rude but let it fly past, we then got our food me a battered sausage and my partner fish, the chips were hard as anything nothing like the usual chips you get at fish and chip shops, the next morning my partner was violently ill, vomiting and had diarrhoea all weekend. Have been to the doctors and they confirmed it is Scombroid poisoning. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! FOLLOW UP : Called the restaurant today and asked to speak to the manager whom was awfully rude , he claims it can’t have been from his restaurant as it is the “safest place to eat fish in town” evidentially not true as my partner was completely fine up until mid morning the next day after eating at this shambles of a business… Avoid unless you want to be served by rude waitresses, ignorant manager and get served scombroid poisoning and hard gone...
