Cafe Royale — Restaurant in Hastings

Probably the worst experience we had in Hastings. Entered the restaurant and was completely ignored by the waitresses. Found a table and still no one had come to take our order for at least 20 minutes. We went to the counter to double check whether the place actually did table service, or if we had to order ourselves. The person behind the counter, who I believe was the manager, was very rude in telling us to sit down and continue waiting. We continued waiting however another family then walked in and was served almost instantly. We decided to get up and leave as it was obvious we would probably be wasting our whole day waiting for some service. Either the staff are poorly trained or they purposely ignore certain customers. I would hope it's the former as all the waitresses seemed very young and were more preoccupied chatting behind the counter rather than serving customers. Plenty of other cafes in the area that serve up better food with a friendly smile!

Edit: In response to the owner, the time would not have been an issue had you not served another family who came in long after us. I'm sure you can also see that on your camera recording. What you'll also see is that we even waited after that but still received no service even though drinks had already been given to them- that is when we left. So I understand it's difficult on a busy day but then perhaps you ought to use a better system of taking orders, so that customers are not looked over.

Whilst the staff were polite they were easily distracted rather than finish carrying out our order satisfactory. Order drinks with meal to see others receive there’s who had arrived after us. Had to ask for our drinks which had clearly been over looked. It was apparent that by 12pm they had been running out of food as our meals came as kid size meals barely any chips and the burger was poor quality with none of the salad etc which should have come with the burger as per the menu. We also over heard others being served crusts because they had no bread. This all was surprising when it was early in the day and they are situated next to a shop which could have replenished there stock. Unfortunately we left disappointed and unsatisfied and won’t be returning.

Update to review in response to owners reply. Yes we did visit on the day I left review it was at the time someone left there phone. If you were not running out of food then there was no excuse for the child size portions or your waitress telling customers you ran out of bread hence using crusts. Even if your burgers don’t offer salad this was specifically asked for we were not told no nor were we told it was extra if it was extra we would have paid more for it as 2 burgers in between a bun with nothing else certainly is basic for the price you charge also the burgers were the burgers from cash and carry not home made or 100% steak as suggested on menu. The service was super friendly and polite. We were welcomed in but had to seat ourselves, the ladies managing the tables were all absolutely charming. They took the time to explain the menu to us and didn't rush us to get out the door or order too quickly. The food was what you would expect, hot, fresh, delicious, and plentiful! They even had bubble and squeak on the menu which I have never seen before but miss from my childhood!!The coffee was surprising! I wasn't expecting a fully functional Espresso bar and the Latte I ordered was expertly crafted. All in all a charming venue for a casual filling meal to get you ready to face the day!!
