Two children in toe, it's lunch time and I'm in Hinkley town centre for the first time. I stagger across the wild lotus and immediately, I'm impressed. Very cool place, food coming out looks great and reasonably priced. I peruse the menu and settled upon two kids meals for the children and a cream cheese and salmon bagel for me. The food and drinks arrive and I take a sip and the coffee is great. The kids start tearing in to their lunch boxes and my two year old latches on to the tube yoghurt. I open it and she begins to snaffle it down. It was at this point my wife arrived and investigated the meals before she ordered. She noticed the yoghurt was out of date. She instantly told me to stop feeding our two year old, as the yoghurt was 9 days out of date! Unfortunately it was too late. My 2 year old daughter has already eaten the whole tube! Immediately I returned all the food and drinks and a refund was agreed to buy the staff. They did offer us two free drinks as a matter of compensation but we did not accept them as will not be back. The yoghurt being out of date by a day or so I could completely understand but 9 days past it's used by date is ridiculous. It beggars the question, if a product with a manufacturers used by date, clearly marked is this far past the use by date and has still been sold to costumers, what other food safety regulations are they...
Read moreI ordered a hot chocolate that took 15 minutes to be made for it to then taste like nothing more than hot milk. My friend (who is vegetarian) got given a ham sandwich after ordering a cheese and tomato one, the staff are nice but the service, lack of menu and non transparent prices as well as waiting times leave this cafe as a place we won't be returning to for months. The staff did replace the order without any issues and apologised but that poor girl was traumatised the moment she accidentally bit into it.
I initially went on the opening week, whilst the friends mentioned went recently.
I understand that new places need time to get up to speed but whilst the atmosphere and style had been very thought-through the actual fundamentals of what makes you pick a certain cafe over another (Speed, taste, accuracy, price transparency) feel totally absent.
I can tell that the individual who made my drink was good at latte's as the cute heart art was appreciated, but the taste was not worth the price in the slightest.
Was pretty hopeful with this new cafe and didn't want to immediately post my experience because it'd tank an independent business that had a good chance. I do hope that it improves and is able to take the above criticism onboard to become the place to go in a few extra months...
Read moreLovely little place! Delightful range of sweet treats and drinks. Always get a tea which comes in a lovely pot and cup, and is a very nice loose leaf. Ice tea is also very nice and beautifully presented. Cannot speak for the coffee. I'm gluten free and am very impressed with the cakes! Nice to see they also do gluten free paninis, but from the reaction of the staff these do not seem to be permanent. I could not tell if they were a new thing or something that wouldn't be sticking around. Hope that they do! The caprese was a little lackluster but I am looking forward to trying the chili jam one soon. Would like the staff to have a bit more confidence about gluten free food, but they were very lovely and referred me to the manager who gave me a bit more confidence. Four stars for the atmosphere just because it can get very echoey in the space when it is busy, which becomes too loud for me to enjoy. However it is very pretty and lovely at quieter times. Very glad to see this new cafe is doing well, and has ironed out some initial issues! Will...
