I recently visited Bohemia for cocktails on a night out. Friendly reception by the security guards and also the bar staff. I gotta say, I gave them two stars because I felt the bartender did a fantastic job with our cocktails. If it weren't for them, I would have given it 0 stars.
It was packed as I expected, and as there were no tables left in the bar area, we were told that we could sit outside the restaurant. The way to the outside area is through the restaurant. My brother went and checked for tables and luckily, there were some free. So I followed him and we sat down while my husband was at the bar waiting for our cocktails.
After a while, my husband came back with one of our cocktails and as he goes back in the restaurant to get to the bar, the lady (manager, I guess) stops him in the doorway and tells him he is causing a nuisance by going back and forth. Let me clarify, this is the first time we went there and the first time my husband came through the restaurant. Once we got to the table, we didn't move. She wouldn't let him finish his sentence and loudly kept telling him that she can bring cocktails to the table or he can walk out of the bar, on the street and through the alleyway to get back to the table. Instead of coming through the restaurant. If she was polite and courteous in the way she spoke, this would have not been a problem at all. Her demeanor was the real issue here.
Once my husband did have a chance to speak, he advised her that our drinks were being made at the bar and he was just going to collect them. At this point, she stopped shouting at him and most of the restaurant were staring at them. I have no idea why she felt the need to humiliate a customer in the doorway. He then returned with our drinks by leaving the bar through the bar entrance and walking with the cocktail glasses on the street and into the outside seating area.
For my first time after hearing a lot of positive and some negative comments, I decided to give this place a try and am saddened to report that it was not what I expected. If it weren't for that one woman, this place is worth visiting. The decor is lovely and so are the cocktails. I hear the food is good too. It is a very small venue and for the only 'trendy' place in town, it's not too bad.
If you're planning on visiting for drinks, make sure you avoid...
Read moreWent to celebrate a double birthday, table for 6. We showed up and waited to be seated, they hadn’t even prepared for us, they sat 6 of us across 2 tables they pushed together right by the kitchen. This would’ve been fine if they had normal tables but theyre these ‘hip’ metal frame with loads of stuff underneath it so my step brothers had no where to put their legs as they were squished on one side of the table, my mum was squished on the end with a table for 2 behind her and she could barely move. This already started the whole evening off badly, if you didn’t have the room don’t accept the booking. Secondly, not their fault necessarily but maybe suggest advertising their challenge 25 policy the same as other places as 2 of us forgot our IDs and we’re visibly over 25 (heavily tattooed) and had travelled 3 hours to go out for dinner for the birthdays. If it was advertised we would’ve made sure we had them as it’s never been an issue for us before. So just a suggestion to add it to your website. Unfortunately this did ruin it a bit for my Mum. The Camembert took forever to arrive and as there was 6 of us crammed on this table it was an uncomfortable experience for everyone to try and eat with kitchen staff coming by all the time, my Mum basically on another table and my step brother crammed in the middle of the table with no where to...
Read moreGreat, well prepared, quality food. We visited for breakfast on a Saturday morning to kill time between events. There’s a few options in the area but we’re so glad we chose Bohemia. We were there as many shops were opening so there were free tables, but there seemed a steady stream of customers.
The menu looks straightforward, but it contains a number of original dishes, or twists on favourites. There’s also a large board with more dishes & specials.
When the food arrived, it was obvious this was a well prepared dish with excellent presentation. The flavours were even more impressive. The food was perfect. The flavours went together perfectly & complemented each other. If you fancy something a little different and don’t mind a little chilli, can heartily recommend the Diablo Morcilla!
It was also nice to get a hot drink that was actually hot. Too many visits elsewhere have resulted in ‘hot’ drinks that you can down upon arrival. Here the drinks were hot whilst not scalding, so just right to savour as you ate.
Happily looking forward to a return visit to sample more of...
