Would give 0 stars if I could - staff are completely incompetent, unfriendly and have no common sense. I’d never been here before and went yesterday with my sister and nephew after seeing the menu online and thinking it looked nice. The cafe didn’t seem busy as there were plenty of empty tables and enough staff working. We walked in and asked to be seated on the corner table and the waitress said she’d clear it for us. She could also see the fact that my nephew needed a baby seat to sit on and didn’t bother to get one for us. I waited a few minutes and simply got it myself. The table hadn’t been cleared properly either but I assumed maybe they were busy and gave it a few more minutes. Eventually I noticed the table wouldn’t be cleared so I had to clear the table myself and it still hadn’t been cleaned either. The waitress didn’t give us any menus when we walked in or when she sat us down so I looked over at the staff to alert their attention - They simply looked back at us and began gossiping about us in clear sight. One staff member was serving a customer however the other few simply sipped coffee and continued to coldly stare at us and talk about us from a distance. As they walked around the cafe they passed our table multiple times clearly seeing we had no menus and were waiting. After they’d seated, given menus to and taken orders from 3 other tables since we’d walked in, we eventually realised we weren’t welcome there and decided to leave. As we were leaving the waitress who ‘greeted’ us seemed confused as to why we were leaving. I’ve worked as a waitress myself before and if I acted that way I’d have been fired on the spot - I can tell from other reviews this cafe clearly looks down on people. Seriously save your money for somewhere that you’ll actually be made to feel welcome and where the staff have some people skills - there’s plenty of other...

The waiter tended to us immediately upon arrival. She pointed to a few tables and mentioned that there was “the corner one” as well. I liked the corner table by the window so I said we would like that one. She then said “oh you can’t take that one because there is two of you and that’s a table for four. You can go on the another table”. I said that’s fine as I understood the reason. I was just a little confused because she had offered that table to us. I asked my husband and he confirmed that he had heard the same. Anyway, we sat down and a second waiter (a young gentleman) brought the menu. We ordered pancakes and Turkish eggs. We asked for the hot drinks to come with the food. The food arrived but the drinks did not arrive until we were nearly finished with your breakfast. This sort of ruined it for me because I like to sip on my tea during my breakfast. My tea was still hot when we were paying at the till. The Turkish eggs were nice BUT the eggs were soft boiled with a hard yolk (not poached as claimed in the menu). The pancakes were small and served with chocolate syrup (instead of chocolate sauce). This made me quite annoyed because I paid nearly £30 for breakfast and expected good quality food. But the food and service standards were very low. I did not know that I could add photos otherwise I would have definitely took...

Had a “working breakfast” at Northern Tea House a few days ago. I had a few errands to run in town but wanted to sit and do some content planning with a nice hot breakfast that was cooked by someone else! So I popped in to this local cafe in town, right near Kingsgate. I have been here a few times now and tried various things and all have been lovely so far! My favourite has to be the eggs Benedict with avocado which is what I decided to have on this visit. It consists of a large slice of toasted sourdough, topped with smashed avocado and 2 perfectly poached eggs covered in hollandaise sauce. This is so filling - they have this and quite a few other dishes which they serve as “all day” options. However it is a tad pricey so perhaps not an “every day” kind of option but definitely good value. The tea is always quality - proper loose tea leaves, given to you in a brewing pot, not just a tea bag! The staff has always been lovely on each visit. I haven’t really tried a lot of their sweet options so can’t comment on those but they do always look yummy. The decor is fab, warm and cosy. Definitely a place to pop in for a hot drink when...

We usually go to Arcade Coffee & Food, but decided to try somewhere new while in Huddersfield for an appointment at Wonder of Wellness (biological dentist). We arrived early and popped into Northern Tea House — and we’re so glad we did! I had the gluten-free brownie which was absolutely fantastic: gooey, rich, and just the right amount of indulgent. My friend had a meringue — soft in the middle, crumbly on the outside — exactly how we like it. I also ordered a pot of tea, which was huge and easily enough for two. There’s no dedicated parking, but we found a nearby street and paid around £3 for 1–2 hours. Might be better parking if you scout around a bit. The café has table service, which was a lovely surprise. There were people working on laptops and others catching up — it gave the place a nice energy. The high ceilings and warm atmosphere made it feel open and welcoming. People were constantly coming in, which is always a good sign. We’d definitely come back next time we’re in town!

Had the most delicious brunch here. It was so refreshing to see a place get everything spot on. You can tell management put their 100% in to this Tea House and it truly reflects! A solid 10/10 - from the decor, the atmosphere, the friendly diverse staff (loved your banter), and the most amazing food and drinks - instagrammable yet delicious at the same time! Wish I discovered this place sooner! I've been going on about this place non-stop to others and I cannot wait to return back. It's an ideal setting for first dates (Kevin made a great "Fred Sirieix" lol), meet-up with friends or even as a study space. I totally recommend their PSL over Starbuck's and the Northern Rarebit was oh so lush. My friend loved her Jasmine Chai. A special thanks to Aaliyah and all the other amazing staff that really looked after us (I'm so sorry I forgot to ask for your names). I for sure will be back soon :-) In the meantime wishing you all the very best and success xx
