Visited with a friend at 6pm yesterday, and was quite disappointed with the whole experience.
The Service
The staff were polite, but seemed to have forgotten about us for 10-15 minutes. Considering that we'd been seated outside (and not being a particularly warm night) you'd think that we'd take a little bit more precedence. After calling someone over, they took our Drinks and Food order together.
The Food
The Bruschetta wasn't very good, and inconsistent in flavour. The bread was way over toasted, and felt like I was almost cutting my my mouth on the edges of the sourdough because of how tough the crust was.
After some time our food came, which looked, if I'm being perfectly honest, just 'okay'? I chose the Arrabiata, with added Nduja Sausage. There wasn't alot of effort put in to the presentation of the dish at all, not even a small piece of Basil on top to make it look nice, but honestly, looked like something I could quickly cook up on my lunch break. The pasta itself was missing that 'something' - I wouldn't say it was all that fresh tasting either, nor al dente. The tomato sauce itself was quite tasty. Portioning, really really lacked - I wish I took a photo of the food to show you how small the little bowls we were given, consisting of mostly sauce. It's okay saying "this is homemade, family recipe, love and care for ingredients yadda yadda", if the pasta isn't really that fresh itself.
My friend commented that their Carbonara's Spaghetti appeared more like Noodles, whilst also being quite small in portioning. 3-4 scoops and it was practically gone!
Considering you're an independent business, RIGHT across the road from a Bella Italia, I expected a bit more effort for a £20 dish.
I won't be coming back next time we're...
Read moreWent to celebtate my partners birthday in Lancaster and booked to stay overnight in a hotel close by and thought Buccellis would be a good choice for a nice romantic meal. Inital thoughts were that the atmosphere was cold and we when we were directed to our table it was very small and the table was wobbly. The menu did not offer Garlic bread but we adapated and asked for Plenty of garlic on a £11 plain pizza as a starter which they agreed to however charged an extra £1 for the garlic! We also ordered 2 pasta dishes which the waiter warned us how that carbonara was cooked is a roman traditional way which sounded nice but when this arrived it was cold. When we told him it was cold he explained this is how the Romans carbonara is cooked. I advised had I been told it would be served cold i would have chosen something else. When the bill arrived we explained we were very dissatisfied and would not be paying a pound for garlic on the £11 pizza and also due to having our special night ruined we were prepared to pay for our drinks and the 1 main course my partner had however they declined this and they pretended to call the police ! Never in my life had i been so upset then we were told us we would have to pay for everything including the cold carbonara that was returned uneaten. Absolutely awful. evening ruined which was meant to be a special night away and they not once offered a...
Read moreMy husband and I have eaten at Buccelli's many times and so he decided there was no better place in Lancaster to hold a surprise 60th birthday celebration for me with family and my closest friends.
I later found out that Bruno the owner, had been very accommodating in organising a menu with my husband, with a choice of great options, that were pre-ordered.
The food, wine and service on the evening were fantastic and helped to create an atmosphere that reminded us of times we have spent in Rome, where a meal is an integral part of a celebration.
I was delighted with my surprise celebration especially when I realised where I was going and our guests, several of whom had not visited Buccelli's before, were very impressed with the quality of the food and the range of specialist wines available.
I want to say a very personal thank you to Bruno for all his help in the secret planning of the evening and to his amazing team of Ben, Bonnie, Jake and Theo for making it a night to remember!
For all of you who have never been to Buccelli's, you don't know what you are missing. It's a little piece of Rome in the centre of Lancaster. Whether you go in for lunch, dinner or just a coffee and cannoli, you won't be...
