Enroute to another restaurant, spotted this new restaurant in the site which housed TGI Fridays in Central Leeds for nearly 30 years! The name & ‘Mediterranean Food’ sign attracted our attention & we decided to check the menu & the restaurant for the next time we were in Leeds. The restaurant decor was very fresh contemporary & vibrant. A great blend of traditional & contemporary. Mixture of tables for parties of all sizes & booths. The central feature is the bar which is inherited from the TGI days, but instead of people ‘flaring’ (throwing bottles around ‘Cocktail’ style) there’s now just comfortable seats around the bar for those either waiting for their table, or those just popping in for a drink. We decided to try the food as it all gave the right vibes & surely something so fresh clean & vibrant could not disappoint with food!? The young Maitre D’, Mehdi, spotted us entering the restaurant & greeted us with his beaming smile & asked if we were looking for a table for 2 or more. On hearing 2, he asked us to flow him, grabbing a couple of minutes as turned. I asked if we could sit by the window as this was the same location my wife and I shared when we visited Leeds & ate at the then TGIs, some 27 years ago!! Mahdi smiled and thanked us for visiting & guided us to a table for 4, near where we had sat at the original visit. He asked us for drinks orders, returning 2 minutes later, to take our food order. I had the traditional Persian saffron chicken breast kebab with salad & bread, whilst my wife chose the Persian lamb chops & Greek style salad. Both dishes were cooked to perfection & presented just as well. The quality & quantity were both outstanding. We then ordered a traditional Persian pistachio ice cream, followed by Persian tea. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Great friendly staff, great menu (mixture of Persian, Mediterranean & Italian staples), something for the young people in the family at value for money prices and portion sizes.
On speaking with the head chef & partner / owner, they have live music, Arabic dancing, DJ nights, plus some great ideas in a healthy fruit shots and juices menu to come soon.

I had the pleasure of dining at Biya2 recently, tucked away in the former TGI Friday’s space on Wellington Bridge Street—and what an experience it was!
From the moment I stepped in, the atmosphere swept me away: statement open bar, handcrafted canvases of Iran, warm earthy tones, gold accents, soft lighting, bespoke banquette seating, and rustic reclaimed wood tables—all blending modern industrial flair with traditional Persian aesthetics. The interior is a feast for the senses.
The food… wow! Everything felt authentically Persian yet refreshingly modern. Sizzling skewers, succulent grilled meats, vibrant mezze, and flavour-packed, freshly made salads—each dish seemed crafted with love, rooted in heritage, and elevated with creative flair. The use of locally sourced, seasonal ingredients made the menu feel vibrant and thoughtful.
Special shout out to Sam, what a star! Sam’s warmth, attentiveness, and genuine enthusiasm made the whole evening sparkle. Our glasses were never empty, our questions met with knowledgeable smiles, and every moment felt like we were dining among friends.
As the evening unfolded, it wasn’t just a meal—it was an experience. Stylish surroundings, impeccable hospitality, and a menu that honors tradition while celebrating innovation. Whether you’re planning a festive night out or simply craving bold Mediterranean-Persian flavours, Biya2 is a must-visit.
