Went for what was meant to be a nice family meal this evening.
What a horrendous experience. Never want to repeat this.
My mum left in tears from how angry and aggressive the waiter was with her.
First impressions were ok. The restaurant is clearly dated and the decor a little unique as it’s Paris wall paper in an Indian restaurant.
One thing I always note when visiting a restaurant is the door to the kitchen. This was filthy dirty. Clearly not been cleaned in some time.
Still hopeful/optimistic about the food.
Greeted and when I say greeted I mean seated by a very cross and unhappy looking host. No smile. Just “come this way”
Ordered soft drinks. Lime and Soda and a Diet Coke.
The Coke came in a pint glass and was flat. We asked if this could be changed and were given a confused look and told it can’t be flat, it’s from a can.
Coca Cola do not make Pint size cans so heaven knows what was in this pint glass. ( I imagine it was from an open bottle)
Then to prove his point the host brings a can of Diet Coke and a half pint glass, slams it down and exclaims - “see! We use cans”
We ordered food. Poppadoms, Pickle Tray, mains, breads, rices.
The poppadoms come out pretty quickly followed by the ready prepped pickle tray from the fridge, which is in the restaurant.
It was ok. The pickles are clearly shop bought (could see a jar they were topping up from left on the side) and nothing special, but OK.
Although one of the pickles, a yoghurt one had a big lump in the middle which I can only describe as curdled. Not sure if this was meant to be this way or not.
We finish the starter. Having used the spoons but also our fingers to dip into the sauces with the poppadoms.
The host comes to clear the table whilst we wait for mains.
This is when the most horrendous thing happens...........
My sister says “no way, he didn’t just do that”
She goes on to tell us that one of the bowls from the pickle tray we had all had our fingers in, licked the spoon of etc was topped up and passed to another table of people dining.
Obviously something like this could be damaging for a restaurant and very embarrassing for us if we were wrong.
So, to check, we innocently asked if we Could possibly have our pickle tray back to enjoy with the mains. AND..... sure enough he brings us the one missing the Mango Chutney.
When challenged and asked where our missing dish is. He does not have an explanation but goes to get us another one.
When we told him what we had seen he denied all knowledge.
Can not believe this happens today. Utterly appalled. Not only a grim experience in terms of the food, but another host, got up in my face and shouted that we were just out to complain and we should f@“king leave.
Terrible experience and one I would hate for anyone else to have to endure.
Feel really sick and sad that my family had their evening spoiled.
Seeing the funny side though, it could have been worse, we could have been sick with the mains.
We left at the point we had eaten one poppadom each. Decided on a safer option of take away...
Read moreUsed to be fantastic but I'd stay away from these scam artists for now. Called up to make an order for collection and the guy on the phone said could we pay cash rather than card (even though they have the facilities for card), this is fair enough in my opinion, I understand it's so they don't have to declare it and pay proper tax but to be honest small businesses need a bit of a boost right now and if it means they pay a few quid less in tax I'm not gonna stand in there way.
Here's the annoying thing, went to cash machine, drew out £30 and walked in with it in my hand, the guy immediately said £29.50 and since I'd put in the exact same order a few times before I knew that was a fair bit higher than usual and questioned it, they said they had a new menu because of COVID so I asked to see it, he immediately said that he didn't have one but would knock some money off and charged me around £23 which sounded about right.
Didn't get an apology, these guys are clearly scamming their customers. I understand it's hard for businesses at the moment and generally I tip anyway so it's not about the money, it's about the fact that they're clearly trying to rip their customers off. I must have ordered from these guys a dozen times since they opened but I won't ever be ordering again. What a silly, silly thing to lose a customer about. Will also be reporting these guys to HMRC, since I called off my business phone I have the call recording of being asked to pay in cash so that'll warrant an investigation....
Read moreMe and my friends recently visited Nawaz Indian Restaurant in Crossgates, Leeds, and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. From the moment I walked in, the ambiance felt unwelcoming, with outdated decor and a general lack of attention to detail.
The service was slow and inattentive. Our server seemed uninterested in assisting us, and we had to wait an unreasonably long time for our orders to be taken. When the food finally arrived, it was a letdown. The dishes lacked the authentic flavors I expect from Indian cuisine, and some of the ingredients tasted stale. The naan bread was dry and hard, and the overall presentation was unappetizing.
The restaurant was not clean. The tables were sticky, and the restrooms were in poor condition. Considering the prices they charge, I expected a much higher standard of quality and cleanliness. I cannot recommend Nawaz Indian Restaurant and will not be returning. Overall the food was very bland and the service was slow even though the...
