Was treated for a meal here though I've never tried it before. When first entering the large space is first to catch your eye, while the set back long bar next to the kitchens is the next. It had plenty of space for at least 70 or 80 people to dine or drink, even a lush quad garden at the rear for the summer. Ordering by mobile the meal did take rather a long time, opting for the medium mixed grill (which lacks onion rings and a fried egg, apposed to the large). The drinks were brought first - 8 minutes before the meal - and when the meal finally arrived, I found that most of the items weren't hot. The large mixed grill that was ordered by an accompanying friend was minus the egg which was only brought when the absence was reported, and when it was it had several pieces of egg shell still in it - inedible - and worth another bout of complaint. All in all, as honest as I can be, I would suggest anyone new to this place buy a Burger with fries, as this was bought by my third accompanying member and they received it 5 minutes before the mixed grill and it was given a thumbs up for being hot, meaty and a good buy. Though my review is detailed in this instance of The Charles Henry Roe, I can say that two or three staff members working there were very polite, helpful and understanding, while the others who stood around the empty bar talking were a lot less enthusiastic about their jobs. This is just an observation, though I dare say it will be up to the future customers to make their own decisions. Would I recommend it to anyone else? I don't think I would. There are other eateries around Authorpe Road that serve a lot quicker and hotter meals, but then these other's...
Read moreNewly opened in Crossgates this year, it takes the place of a old defunct doctors surgery. The exterior is a very blink and you will miss it affair.
On my last couple of visits around 0800-9000hrs it had been relatively quiet, which I like for having a relaxing breakfast and coffee. I have not been in during the possibly heavy traffic times.
The decor is much as you expect for a Weatherspoons, a call to local historical land marks, a lot of dark wood.
The staff are pretty friendly and are indeed following the Covid rules quite stringently, as they should. You will have to Track and Trace on entry, you have not excuses not to.
The food is standard for Weatherspoons the McDonald's of pub chains, if you have had a breakfast in another it will be the same here.
Cheerful and friendly, no broken or vandalised furniture. But give the regrettable few dossers of Crossgates time, I'm sure they will manage it.
Certainly comes as a change to the very 'local' Station, where sisters are out in dates with brothers. Or the shameful Travellers Rest or what ever it is known as in the roundabout, which is like stepping...
Read moreWent here for Dinner last night (Thursday 23/07/20) with my Husband and two friends. We arrived at 4.15pm and were greeted at the door, filled in our Track and Trace form and waited to be shown to a table. The pub was very busy but we only waited 5 mins for a table inside however we could have had a table outside straight away. We were taken to a booth which was very comfortable for the 4 of us. We had drinks first which we ordered via the App but our friends ordered at the bar as they wanted to see the Real Ale selection. We then all ordered food and everything was brought promptly. To say the pub has only been opened since Tuesday it was very well run and all of the staff were very helpful with where to find things in the pub. I think this will be a great local in Cross Gates which we have waited for for a long time. Personally I liked the fact that we were following all the COVID rules as it meant everyone was seated and there werent crowds stood at the bar which sometimes I think can be a bit much in some of the Weatherspoons. Well done and cant wait to visit again, will give it a try for...
