We went on Chinese New Year, we waited in the lobby and we were ignored by staff for 10 minutes. There should be front of house staff ready to greet and assist you. Eventually we were taken to be seated by a guy with a poor attitude, we asked for jug of water and pot of Chinese tea.
He came back and asked did I want green tea or jasmine tea, I said I just wanted typical Chinese tea that is common in restaurants. We only received two glasses of water and he never brought tea. It took 30 minutes for a waitress to appear, she was a very sweet girl but the place was being very poorly managed. So we ordered Spicy Dumplings, Lemon Chicken, Griddled Potato chips with sliced pork belly and egg rice. I had to ask again for Chinese tea.
Tea came 15 minutes later. Then we drank tea for 50 minutes and some of the food came with slightly apologetic waiter. He said they were struggling due to Chinese new year take away orders, but that is not a good excuse!. You are a big business with several restaurants in UK and you cannot manage afew orders on a very important day?. The lemon chicken was OK, but very basic like take away, not even lemon pieces, and quite small portion.
The spicy dumplings in chilli oil broth was nice but probably made with frozen dumplings. The egg rice was very good but portion for two was a little small. The Griddled potato chips and pork belly slices was mostly round potato slices and red chilli pieces, hardly any meat!. Tried charging us for two pots of tea but we only had one. Also ask for 10% service charge.
So overall a very dissapointing experience, service is appallingly bad. And it wasn't just us that suffered, I could see other people had dissapointed faces, including Chinese families. There seems to be a disconnect between the staff, no leadership and bad attitude from the tall guy. And why so mean with the portions and meat? The prices on the menu are not cheap, pork and chicken is not expensive meat.
Its a shame because Red Chilli could be good, it's nice to finally see home style Chinese dishes offered on an English language menu and not just typical sweet and sour, hoisin duck and bbq ribs. People want to try new traditional Chinese things, but not if the service and atmosphere...
Read moreWe've had a meal here tonight and honestly it was pretty diabolical! First of all, the service was really sluggish, whilst it was a little busy when we came in, loads of staff were running around but not really paying attention to who's waiting to order at all (we felt a lot of them just wanted to "look busy"). Sat there around 35 minutes before we could even order drinks. There was a man walking around (the manager maybe?) being quite rude to all the other staff which we just found disgusting as he was just short of shouting at everyone he spoke to whilst literally standing right next to customers. We've ordered salt & pepper spare ribs as a starter - DO NOT ORDER THIS! We've never ever ever ate anything so bad! They've battered the hell out of those ribs and there was no seasoning on it at all, all we could taste was the weirdest deep fried oily batter and bits of meat. Sweet and Sour chicken was left less than half eaten - again, what's with the horrible batter on everything?! It tasted weird, bad and unlike any sweet and sour chicken we've ever tried elsewhere. We've also had the GongBao diced chicken with peanuts and dried chilli - that was.... interesting... the chicken just tasted weird again (no batter this time at least!) the sauce (soy, we presume) was sickly sweet and the amount of oil was just unbearable. A side of egg fried rice was the last bit, whilst it was generally alright, again - OIL GALORE! Everything was just covered in oil and salt and sugar! In the last 2 years we've visited this place maybe 5-7 times, this time was definitely the last and we will not be returning as each time the food has gotten worse and worse. Having spent a total of nearly 2 hours at the restaurant and waiting to order, listening to the rude man (if he's the manager we feel sorry for the staff who works there) and then essentially eating horrible tasting over fried batter and oily food with little actual flavour - no thanks! The price does not represent the quality at all and we're now left feeling like we've drank half a bottle of cooking oil with a side of salt/sugar -...
Read moreWon't recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially if you have food allegy. They just don't care about your safety. I went there on Saturday. The male staff who served my table wasn't friendly at all. He did not reply to us when we were ordering and had been very slient. This was super awkward for the whole table. When I was speaking about my food allegy,he simply walked away without a word. Seriously, he walked away when i was speaking to him... He just doesn't know what respect is and doesn't care about the consequences brought by food allegy. Many Chinese dishes contains alcohol and I can't have that because I am pregnant. Well, if you negligently mistaken my allegy then that's one thing. But if you refuse to consider my allegy and cares nothing about customer safety, nor an unborn life then that's a really serious issue. When I asked another member of staff if they have made the dishes in accordance with my diet requirements, she simply said yes even though she didn't know who ordered my food nor what my allegy is. I didn't see any diet requirements on the receipt neither. Now I am very worried about what I have eaten there. I also suggest this restaurant to clean the dishes carefully. I ordered hot water but there's a tea leaf in the pot that they gave me. I asked them to change a new one, and there's another leaf in the new pot! So I asked them to change a new one... and guess what. Another unwashed pot with a tea leaf. Fantastic.
Finally I would really appreciate if Red Chilli restaurant can use fresh and eatible food to cook. I ordered a soup and the corns in it was outdated... It tasted sour... I...
