You'll never get Syc of this place. The More we visit, the more we fall in love with the West End's new cosy corner. With the West Common on its doorstep, The Sycamore is the perfect pre, mid or post-walk destination and your dog is invited too! Unfortunately for the dog, the food is that good you won't want to share, but that leads us nicely to what you're here for, the food! Here's what we had:
🐮 Top Side of Beef with Yorkshire Pudding 🍗 Garlic & Herb Chicken Breast (Yorkshire Pudding £2) 🥕 Carrots, Broccoli, Green Beans, Cauliflower, Gravy, Roast Potatoes (Cauliflower Cheese £4) 🎂 Baked Raspberry Cheesecake with Lime Sorbet 🍨 Sticky Toffee Sundae with Honeycomb Ice Cream, Honeycomb Pieces & Salted Caramel Sauce
It's safe to say that we could have done with a walk around the Common after all that food! We were stuffed, not uncomfortably so, but we knew we'd eaten a good amount of quality food.
The food was just divine. It made us forget everything for a second, and then again with the second mouthful. The Beef melted in our mouths and was cooked how we liked it, pink. The Chicken was on point. Full of flavour, juicy and a sizeable portion too. On to the veg and we couldn't fault a thing. The Cauliflower Cheese was a massive hit and if we hadn't already filled our plates we would have ordered another couple of portions. As for dessert, you need to try both of these. They are so tasty and well worth the money. Don’t believe us, try them!
Jamie & James, you’ve knocked it out of the park again. We know why the locals love it and we think The Sycamore will be a legend of Lincoln for many generations to come.

Read moreI don’t write this easily, I know how hard it is for small businesses right now but this was just disapointing. The cafe/restaurant itself is nice, warm, welcoming and clean. Went on Saturday night for pizza with such high hopes. We’re new to the area and really hoped to stumble across a neighbourhood gem. We’d booked an early table (5.30pm) which probably is unusual so maybe this is the reason it was so underwhelming. The food was ok (there is room for improvement but it is ok, cheap cheese, oven baked pizzas with not overly generous toppings). The sharing board (£15 for two) was lacking chuntney and pickles. 3 different cheeses, very thinly sliced but tasty cheeses. The crackers it was served with weren’t the freshest (like when a packet has been unsealed for a few days, not quite soft but also not fresh) and when we asked for butter/chutney we were given 3 packets of hard butter and told there was no chuntney. We were given a bowl of sliced gerkins. Wine was nice, served at a good temperature but with dirty glasses. After the cheese board chat we just felt we couldn’t mention the dirty glasses so cleaned them with a napkin. When the waitress collected this wine stained napkins there was no question what had happened which I thought was strange. The real disappointment was then closing early, calling bookings and cancelling, telling people who’d turned up they were closing and then standing around waiting for us to finish and leave. It all felt so uncomfortable which was so far from what we’d wanted it to be. There might have been a reason why they chose to close early but this wasn’t evident and just felt uncomfortable. Our bill was £60 for the two of us so really reasonable but just felt like a party we’d not been invited to which was...
Read moreVisited for Saturday brunch in September. Made extremely welcome, relaxed atmosphere. Dog friendly inside and out. Inside is compact, so, as we were three dog three adult party, for comfort of other diners we ate outside (weather still permitting!) Ate scrambled egg on waffle with maple syrup which initially I thought was an interesting combination and turned out it was gorgeous. Sister and bro-in-law had full English, clean plates all round. Interesting fact: me and sister grew up around here and The Sycamore used to be a local corner shop (as opposed to the ‘top shop’ which was further along West Parade on Moor Street). We bought colourful nets on sticks to go tiddling in ‘The Orni’ on West Common. The sweet counter was old fashioned and you had to ask for the items - like Arkwright store in Open All Hours. This shop was also open a bit later so when we did ‘field trips’ with the Girl Guides we could get drinks and crisps here....
