We came here for Sunday dinner with my sister and the kids yesterday. Be aware there are 3 or 4 steep stairs to get to the higher level eating area. There is also two small steps to get inside. There is some seating just after the two small steps. There is also seating outside, which there are no steps to get to. (There was no one outside when we went as it's only the beginning of March and it's very cold.) There is an accessible toilet on the ground floor, but the other toilets are downstairs.
Now for the food. We all mainly ordered Sunday dinner, meat eaters got chicken and there was a delicious vegan Wellington for the rest of us. The Wellington had a spiced mix with veg and chickpeas which was wonderful. My nephew ordered a steak, he said that it was delicious and he couldn't believe the size of it when it came out. He did manage to demolish quite a lot of it though. Our Sunday dinner was delicious, there was red cabbage on there and it was delicious, it tasted like a chutney with both sweetness and a sour taste together which was fantastic. There was roast potatoes, carrots, parsnips, broccoli and cauliflower. Then we had our vegan Wellington and a huge Yorkshire pudding on top. We each had a personal jug of gravy, vegan for us and meat gravy for my sister and niece. It was a fantastic Sunday dinner. Usually when I have this out I am severely disappointed, so take this as the pinnacle of Sunday dinner for me. There was so much that I couldn't finish it all but I hated to leave it, it was that nice. My daughter and niece and nephew then put a brownie and ice cream away, which there was no way I could have had that, after such a filling meal. The staff were all lovely and attentive but not to the point of annoying. I highly recommend this place, I think that being on Castle Street bin Liverpool city centre it will be very busy on nice days, especially with the outdoor seating. If you need to book for more than five people, give them a call as it's only five or less for their...
Read more*Update (after management reply): Their response only makes this worse. They replied days later â yet blame me for not contacting them. I did: I wrote here. They ignored me until public pressure. They say ânobody remembersâ and blame the crowd. But in the UK even a small bump gets a âsorry.â This was deliberate â and then I was even accused of hitting him. They suggest I left âmultiple reviews.â False â I left only one. And even if I had, that is my right as a customer.
This is not accountability â itâs a strategy to silence and dismiss me. My shoulder still hurts. Their denial proves exactly the culture of disrespect I experienced that night, and I no longer expect anything genuine from them
I am an international student here in Liverpool. What upset me most is that this would never have happened to a local English customer. It felt like I was treated with less respect simply because I am not from here. That made the experience even more disappointing and upsetting. I visited Castle St Townhouse on Friday 19 September 2025 around 7pm. As I was leaving, a male security guard â much larger than me â walked in and hit my arm so hard that it hurt. He didnât look at me and didnât say âsorry.â In the UK, people apologise even when they lightly touch someone. Here, there was nothing. I stopped him and asked: âExcuse me, do you have a problem with me? Why did you hit my arm?â Instead of simply apologising, he turned and said: âNo, you hit me.â Only later, after I pressed the issue, did he reluctantly mutter âok, sorry.â This really upset me. As a woman, I couldnât understand why I was treated this way â a simple apology would have been enough. Instead, I was left feeling uncomfortable in a place I had come to enjoy. This behaviour was unnecessary, unprofessional, and...
Read moreWe were staying in a hotel on the same street and decided to pop in for lunch on our last day in Liverpool. Once we got there we were told that breakfast was on till 1pm, lunch started at 1pm - which wasnât what we wanted but we decided to stay for breakfast as we had a train to catch. The decor was nice, the place was clean. The customer service started good, we got seated quickly and our order was taken quickly too. It wasnât very busy, Iâd say 4 tables were occupied by small groups. Once we got our food, we had to ask for missing cutlery, nobody came back to ask how our food was, nobody came back to take another drinks order. Most of the staff were at the back of the restaurant chatting. I ordered the eggs florentine but it was missing the eggs. Not sure how thatâs possible but once I managed to get hold of someone, they just served me eggs on the side. Not ideal as thatâs not what i ordered and as my bf started eating, I had to wait to find out what was going on. Out of curiosity, I asked (politely) what happened and all I got was âI donât know, the chef was confusedâ. They tried to charge us ÂŁ55 for a disaster meal, ignored and to chase them around for a little service. The lady made me feel like a burden for asking and made me feel like it was my fault. It even got to the point where my bf had to go up to the desk and make payment even though we asked to pay several times. I can understand if it was busy, but it wasnât and they had plenty of staff! I wouldnât return, which is a shame because my bf enjoyed...
