Having spent last weekend in hospital, I was discharged on Monday morning and wanted something nice to eat. I had heard and read a lot about this place and was looking forward to trying it out. Firstly even with a blue badge it is impossible to park outside of and being disabled and having to use a stick, it was difficult to park across the busy road and have to negotiate it twice on foot. The menu looked tasty and I opted for a ‘ half and half ‘ bagel for £14.00 which turned out to be daylight robbery! I placed my order with a rather unfriendly waitress and despite being visibly disabled was told to stand and wait outside. Ok they were busy but it took almost 30 minutes for my order to arrive and even though I had specified the bagel to be halved to seperate the fillings, I was told they had forgotten and essentially ushered out with my uncut bagel. One half of the bagel was a tiny amount of ‘ salt beef ‘ with potato hash and a poached egg. In all honesty it was ok, what little there was of it and I managed to cut the bagel with a ( supplied but not given nor offered ) wooden knife. Being hungry I ate this half in the car saving the other half until I got home. The second half was smoked salmon and capers, nothing special. The salmon was ‘ trimmings ‘and you could just tell it was the unbranded cast offs which you can buy in most branches of a cheap, well known ‘ dime store ‘ for coppers. To cheer this up I spread the bagel with cream cheese, added the salmon and put loads of fresh lemon juice and freshly ground pepper on it. Oh sorry I forgot to mention there was another poached egg too. I love anything acidic, sharp or sour and having not had capers for ages, took a cocktail stick and began to eat them from the container. A small amount of liquid juice had accumulated in the container, obviously the vinegar from the capers. Just as I was finishing the capers, I noticed a small, dead black fly floating in it. I have not felt well enough to contact the establishment and I live quite a distance from it so am posting this true, fair experience I had. A few further points….
Saw this place on social media, was really looking forward to it. Myself and my partner arrived with a couple of minute wait before being seated, understandable due to the hype. Was seated at a table which was loose, could possibly be a spill hazard with hot drinks, it didn’t bother me too much but is something to note. My partner ordered the New York Moose aswell as the standard pancakes, he really loved the dishes. However I ordered the double Dutch, it came out with a very long very dark wavy hair draped across the fried eggs, I regret not taking a picture now. I understand mistakes can happen so I just caught a waitresses attention and let her know and she said she’d get me a new one which was grand. The second plate came out piping hot was great, when I began eating it it was delicious until I pulled a short hair out of the middle of my pancake. I don’t know how it happened to me twice in a row but I felt like crying because I was so hungry and let down. I said it to the waitress and she took it away with a quick apology and I told her I didn’t want to eat anymore. My boyfriend finished his meal and the manager came over to quietly apologise and said she took it off the bill (bare minimum) and then explained she applied a discount to the rest of the bill which was fine, offered us drinks which I refused because I was so embarrassed that I feel I made a fuss, she then asked if I wanted to order a different dish, I said no because there was no chance I was going to be charged for another dish after that experience and my stomach was turning at the thought of it. When we asked for the bill a 10% discount was applied, for gods sake. Not even the coffee I ordered was taken off, she acted as if she was doing us a big favour when she gave us less then a student discount off our food, which was about 2.40. Worked in the hospitality and restaurant industry for years and I think a business can really be measured on its quality for how they act when things go wrong, this place was more than disappointing. People should know about this, wish I had a big platform to let people...
Read moreWhile stopping in Liverpool, I took the opportunity of a cooked breakfast before a long journey. A local friend suggested Moose Coffee. When i arrived, the sign outside asked you to wait to be seated, but as there were only 2 tables taken, I walked in. I asked the waitress if I could get a table for one, she looked at the other and asked her the same thing.. the second nodded. I was offered any available table. I ordered a black coffee and the one-eyed moose - scrambled eggs with cream on granary with a side of steak bacon rashers. The food arrived but it wasn't what I expected. I know how to cook scrambled eggs with cream, and I've had it in numerous restaurants and hotels. This was an omelette. It was one large piece of swirled egg with zero taste. The bacon was no better with no taste and a rubber texture.
The waitress asked if everything was ok. I said no. I explained what I was experiencing , and she said "well at least it was honest," though I don't think she was happy that I was. She asked if I wanted another, and I said no. She went back over to the main bar area where all the other waitresses were and then decided to tell them all as they looked over at me. She came back over, so I asked for the manager.
She approached and I asked to take a seat. I explained about the poor quality of food but also the attitude. It one thing to be unhappy with a customer, but at least wait till they've left before gossiping about them. She apologised and took the food away. I finished my coffee and rose to pay. There was no charge. This i disagreed with because i had drunk the coffee. She charged me for this, and I left.
With numerous locations in this wonderful city to eat, no restaurant should take the customer for granted. Service is included, which means a welcoming attitude. It's such a shame, neither materialised.
UPDATE:
The owners have responded telling me that I was wrong and that what I received was scrambled...
