We took a day trip from Manchester to Liverpool, and for a cosy midday coffee and bite, we chose Core Coffee & Kitchen — and wow, we’re so glad we did! Honestly, I could see myself visiting Liverpool more often just for these.
One of the main reasons we picked this place was because one of us has coeliac disease, and Core offers a separate gluten-free menu — a big plus! In the photo, you can see the gluten-free Mushrooms on Toast and gluten-free Poached Apple French Toast, alongside an Iced Americano and a Long Black. Everything — the food and the drinks — was absolutely delicious.
There was also a third plate not pictured: the regular Mushrooms on Toast, which I tried since I don’t have any dietary restrictions. And honestly the toppings are so full of flavour that you hardly notice the difference in the bread — both versions were fantastic.
At one point, we asked about the soup of the day, and our lovely server Caroline brought us a little sample in a cup without hesitation. Huge thanks to her — she was so friendly, helpful, and just an all-around sweet person.
We also ordered Skin-on Fries on the side, which were equally delightful.
All of this came to £47, and for the quality, it felt like a total steal. We were beyond satisfied with the food, the atmosphere, and of course, Caroline’s amazing service. I’ll definitely...

What did we have? Flat White Tea Wild Mushroom on Sourdough Poached Eggs w/ Streaky Bacon on Sourdough Hash Browns w/ Chimichurri
Service was very quick and efficient. Staff all seemed happy and positive. Order taken quickly and drinks arrived equally so. Food order taken straight after and food arrived timely within less than 10 mins. Coffee was really nice and tea was tea although arrived in a nice decorative pot.
Eggs were free range and cooked to perfection and streaky bacon was crispy and not fatty - perfect. Only one sourdough toast which didn't seem enough at the time but after breakfast had settled, was adequate for that perfect pleasantly full feeling. Perfect.
A side of hash browns in chimichurri as recommended by the waitress provide a nice spicy addition to the breakfast. My wife had wild mushroom with caramelised onion on sourdough. The mushrooms and sourdough were really tasty however onions not caramelised enough.
Highly recommended and would definitely return....
Read moreI recently stumbled upon this hidden gem of a café tucked away on a quiet cobblestone street, and let me tell you—it was an absolute revelation! From the moment I stepped through the door, I was enveloped in a warm, inviting ambiance that felt like a cozy hug from an old friend. The aroma of freshly ground coffee beans mingled with the sweet scent of house-baked pastries, instantly transporting me to a state of pure bliss. The menu is a masterpiece of creativity and quality. I opted for their signature avocado toast on sourdough, topped with poached eggs, chili flakes, and a drizzle of truffle oil—each bite was an explosion of flavors, perfectly balanced and utterly addictive. Paired with a velvety flat white crafted by their incredibly skilled barista, it was coffee perfection in a cup. And don't even get me started on the desserts; the lemon lavender cake was light, zesty, and melt-in-your-mouth divine. What truly sets this place apart is the...
