Ordered a pint of dark mild, the beer had a band aid flavour which points towards a brewing fault. The beer was undrinkable so I asked if I could exchange and the lady behind the bar said no it was fine and no one else had complained, she said the brewery said it was fine which I find an odd comment to add as it implied they’d asked the brewery on the quality for some reason? She also began to assume I hadn’t tried a mild before

I have worked in the industry for 18 years and enjoy a lot of cask ales, especially dark mild which is a regular choice. I stood at the bar with my friend whilst he drank his pint. I left mine full at the bar.

By a long shot this is the worst customer service I have ever had in a pub. I felt embarrassed standing at the bar not being able to drink a beer. I didn’t purchase another for the principle of the matter.

If she had just exchanged my beer I would have probably written a completely different review as this is the exact kind of pub I love to visit around the UK. Unfortunately if this is the kind of guest service that is encouraged by management then it’s a shame and they shouldn’t be aloud to sell the amazing beers they have.

Needless to say I’m never walk through those doors again and I can definitely tell you that this story will be shared for years to come

Cheers for the...

Wow what can I say about this amazing venue. We came in on a busy Saturday night and descended on the bar. After a delightful chat with the staff behind the bar we ordered our drinks. I had a pint of Murphys and the wife had a single vodka and coke, she's pregnant so unfortunately doubles were off the cards! After a sharp 180° turn we soon realised the venue was completely full and there were no free seats. This is when the Dispensary's 5 star service and hospitality was solidified in our hearts for eternity. The landlord of the pub came out and without hesitation dropped down on his knees and hands and offered himself as a makeshift seat for my heavily pregnant wife. I was happy to stand but completely blown away by his kindness. We stayed for at least another 5 hours and enjoyed every minute of our night out. Unfortunately we had to leave soon after as that 5th shot of Wray & Nephew was a bit too much for my wife. I know what a baby! Anyway hank you for having us and we can't wait to visit...

Lovely old world pub. But witnessed an altercation while visiting. The manager was man-handling, threatening and verbally abusing a client who I was with, who innocently brought in a small inconspicuous almost unnoticeable pot of food against pub rules. Managers behavior was totally disproportionate to the 'offence'. Very uncomfortable and over the top psychopathic lunatic behavior from someone who is paid to be customer focused and able to distinguish good guys from bad guys! It was a very ugly threatening unprovoked situation. I had no option but to intervene and separate (or rather prevent) the manager from taking even more potentially violent action! The manager needs sacking and taking to account for his behavior. I've nothing personally to gain from making a negative review except to warn-off any unsuspecting clients. I'm a mature sensible reviewer with a reliable track record and have to be honest - please DO NOT visit this pub or you will be at risk of similar...

I've been coming to this pub for many years and it's not changed over the decades. It's in an ideal location at the top of Renshaw St and has a lot of passing traffic and this accounts for a lot of it's business as it always seems busy of an evening. It's not too busy though during the day and I find that's the best time to call in for a pint. They have always had a cracking selection of real ales and beers and I can normally find a seat somewhere in the pub. The staff are always friendly and welcoming and it's a great place to have a quiet drink.

First time visitor despite having worked Liverpool for years somehow missed on various pub crawls. On this trip possiblity the beer of the afternoon was from the Liverpool Brewing Co on their great range of cask hand pumps. The bar is extensively stocked including craft beers. Very interesting interior, seats outside to watch the world go by! Friendly staff just a great pub!
