I used to enjoy visiting this record shop, which is fairly out the way for me compared to the more central locations in town. I'm by no means a regular but have spent money here on and off for years. Unfortunately I found out today about your new policy of treating everyone carrying a bag in your shop as a thief because you had some equipment stolen. This happened in the form of staff shouting "NO BAGS IN THE BACK" at me, followed by "AND the one on your back" as though I was a naughty schoolkid up to something. I'd never previously had any issue with browsing in the back of the shop, as in the past I've always been (unsubtly) followed by staff who stand watching to make sure I'm not thieving, which I suppose is fair enough. What isn't fair is projecting your lack of security as a problem to your customers. It's not my fault, nor the fault of any other customer that you had a theft; it's yours. Take responsibility for the security of your shop and don't treat everyone with suspicion for carrying a bag in the city centre of all places. You may want to channel the energy you spend on paranoia about theft into purchasing CCTV equipment, or storing your equipment somewhere where people can't grab and walk out with them? It was all the more damning when I noticed the same staff member follow a customer outside, watch them walk down the street, come back inside and make a comment to their friend about how the customer looked "shifty", or words to that effect. Please do give customers a clue on what is and isn't acceptable in terms of behaviour and appearance so we can lower our chances of being profiled by you. Good luck with the new business practice. Read moreI took some records to sell, and, as requested, I left them to be valued. They offered a paltry price, I said no thank you. I picked up my vinyl and a few days later I realised some were missing, including a 78rpm Hound dog by Elvis. I approached them and they basically shrugged their shoulders. Learn from my mistake, make a record of your records, and double check them at the store. Do not trust them. When I think of 81 Renshaw I think of the two letters R and B, not 'Rhythm and Blues', but 'Robbing', and you can guess the second...
