Excellent!! Excellent!! Excellent!!

Upon entering, I was struck by a vibrant atmosphere it was 8pm on Saturday night. Neon lights hang down from the ceiling in a mix or chinese and English writing and immediately as you look around the food market you are drawn to the back of the room where there is a very unique feature wall almost floor to ceiling in neon lights with pictures, phrases and symbols I don't know of anything similar that is as impressive in Liverpool. I didn't take photos personally but there are pictures of the signs in other reviews posted here if you wish to see for yourself before visiting.

The food stalls are lined along the walls to the left and right walls of the room leaving plenty of space to walk around the hall, whilst in the centre you find plenty of seating the tables are strong and sturdy appear marble topped and the chairs are so comfy no complaints here. There are I think 7/8 hot food stalls including a Turkish grill, noodles, asian fried chicken, pad Thai, Mexican and a Italian sea food restaurant. Along with the hot food there is a place serving deserts it had the most delicious ice cream which is a must buy especially if you visit in the current heatwave, I'm aman of simple tastes so I just went with a medium sized tub of chocolate ice cream. You can also find a jidong bubble tea stall by far for me the best bubble tea in Liverpool I regularly frequent their store at the top of Brownlow Hill. There is also a bar serving alcohol at the bottom of the market, serves a host of wines, spirits, bottled beers and draught lager. I had a pint of 1906 pilsner which hit the spot first time I'd come across this lager and was pleasantly surprised.

In regards to the hot food I can happily recommend the Baja Mexican stall I ate the Piri Piri Prime Steak Fajita which I hadn't come across before this was a healthy portion I would say for me medium spiced so not too hot. I also got a side of spicy wedges which can crisp and well seasoned but I couldn't eat them all as there was too much with the Fajita and I had my eye on the ice cream.

The cleaning seemed quite regimented, there where staff cleaning tables and trays and I saw on a few occasions one member of staff out mopping and sweeping the floors. I didn't have the need for the toilet on my visit so I cannot comment on those but I expect these are well maintained based on the rest of the market.

All in all a very welcomed addition to the Liverpool food scene for me and I won't hesitate to go back and recommend this place...

New Food Market!

This food market is located on the top of Renshaw Street, opposite Rudy’s Pizza.

Initially I thought this was going to be a replica of ejoy food market but this food market has different cuisines, it’s more like the Baltic Market but with mainly Asian food and also a few Mediterranean and Middle Eastern.

There is a reasonable amount of seating available throughout the market but you may struggle to find spaces for groups of more than two people during busy hours on a weekend. I went on a Sunday around 4pm and it was very busy - I’m not sure if that’s because it’s a new food market or because it is popular.

There are 11 vendors and a bar:

Jidong (Bubble Tea & Fruit Tea) Dagu Rice Noodle (Rice Noodles) Z.X. Fresh Fried Chicken (Taiwanese Fried Chicken) Nduo Sushi (Japanese) Mong Kok (Dim Sum) Amara (Turkish Street Food) Antonietta (Artisan Cakes & Gelato) Baja (Mexican Street Food) Rice and Noodle kitchen (Chinese) PadThai (Thai Street Food) Pescato (Italian Fish Bar)

I only tried Jidong on my first visit but I’ve tried their drinks before at both of their other locations so I know the drinks are good! However, this location is much more central and closer to the city centre compared to the other branches which are closer to The University of Liverpool. I’ve been waiting for this store to open since it was advertised last year in 2021.

One aspect of the food market I want to touch on is the toilets. As you enter the main toilet room itself, the mens and womens is located through the one door but is then split off into two small corridors for each gender. There are three sinks in total in the main toilet room separating the mens and the womens toilets, so both men and women will use the same sinks. There is also only one hand dryer for both genders to use which is unusual. The mens toilets are very cramped and there is little to no room to move around (Only three urinals and two tiny cubicles). The toilet floors were quite dirty, so it appears at first instance that the room doesn’t get cleaned often.

Overall, I’m very happy that this food market exists and there is now a city centre branch of Jidong. I’m looking forward to trying the food on my next visit but a bit disappointed with the toilets if I’m...

Now these are the types of places that should exist in every city and large town. I’ve experienced to date such spots in London and Birmingham, and I so love the concept and idea of bringing many different and often extreme food flavours from alternate parts of the world, under ‘One Roof’ with communal seating pulling people and food endeavours together. Renshaw Street Food Market offers exactly that and more; from Sushi, Italian, Turkish, Chinese, Mexican, Thai etc, my palate spins with such choice as I love to take different offerings from a number of these ‘Fresh Food Stalls/kitchenettes’ and try not to follow the adage ‘my eyes being bigger than my Stomach’, once I start roaming menus. I came here last week, so I kinda got my head around, how to best approach without going too mad 😜. This week I went for a Sushi Combo (predominantly chicken & veg - 10 pieces), simple Noodle Soup, Crispy chicken strips and Chicken on a Skewer. It lived up to everything I expected, succulent, fresh, made to order, couldn’t have asked for anything less and the combination of flavours was invigorating, especially the wasabi challenge. All in £17.90, couldn’t finish so took the ‘Half-left’ home. Perfect. The week before we had the Beef Brisket Noodle Soup Bowl, Duck/Pork Rice Bowl and the best Prawn Spring Rolls, with Gelato’s to Finish - sublime and so reasonable. This venue, makes me wanna eat out more, especially here, keep up the great work everyone as ye will be seeing a-lot more of me/us. ...

I've visited here three times now - first time I tried a mussels and clams dish from the specials board at Pescato - it was amazing, incredibly tasty, huge portion, great service. The 2nd time I tried the Dim Sum, very friendly service, food was a mix of delicious and good, I thought the sui Mai were a bit generic (definitely get better ones from the dumpling guys at eJoy up the road). The 3rd time was at tea time on a Friday, it was pretty busy, and it was very hot and sweaty inside the hall - they reach need to look at whether their ventilation is adequate, it got pretty uncomfortable. I tried the food from Pescato again, and was a bit disappointed, I got mussels from the specials board but it was a much less generous serving of food, the fried bread it came with wasn't nearly as good as the last time, it was more like something you'd get with a big standard English breakfast. My friend's calamari was chewy. My other friend's Thai food looked incredible, so I think I'll try that next time. Overall a great place to eat, much more down to earth than the Baltic and Duke St food halls, I love the neon decor, and it has a nice bustling vibe about it. But they need to address the ventilation, and I think some of the stalls need to get the hang of coping with service when it gets busy - hopefully that's just teething issues though.
