Dreadful wreck of former classic pub.
The latest in gimmickery; leave holes in the ceiling.
How can you clean this place?
What falls out of holes above your beer?
And it has a history which was exposed in the Liverpool Echo
Echo "...When asked about the business’s sudden closure he said: “The building is leased by Marston’s brewery. The owner of the site wanted a fire safety check so they called Marston’s in to inspect the place.
“Then Merseyside Fire and Rescue also inspected the building and they concluded it was safe. However, Marston’s disagreed.”
More Echo "Ben said, when pressed on why they were now not allowed to trade until Friday: “I have absolutely no idea I’m afraid.”
When quizzed about the future of The Oracle, the bar owner said: “We are definitely looking to reopen. This wasn’t a failure of our business or a money issue, we just lost our home.”
Liza, a student who worked at the venue said: “Working at The Oracle has been my favourite job I’ve ever had. If they reopen while I’m still in Liverpool I would love to come back.”
Will Lyons has owned the Monro for 20 years. He said in a Facebook statement to the pub’s followers: “Despite our best efforts to keep the doors open until Christmas, the situation is beyond our control.
“Our wish was to honour the bookings our loyal customers have made and go out in style at the end of the year. Sadly, in business, wishes don't always come true.
“We are grateful for your support and loyalty over the years. It's people like you that made it all worthwhile.”
More Echo "When the ECHO approached Merseyside Fire and Rescue, a spokesperson said: "Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service has not identified any risks at this premises that would cause serious injury to users of the building, should a fire occur. Therefore, any decisions regarding the continued use of the building are for the people responsible for that building to make, and MFRS would not comment further on those decisions."
A Marston's PLC spokesperson told the ECHO: "Marston’s is not the owner of the property, but we do operate a lease on it. The safety of our customers and colleagues will always be our priority and we have taken the decision on those grounds."
And suddenly it re-opens and they poke holes in the ceiling and we are all expected to spend our cash there?
But of course they have that latest instrument of modernity; the Reflective Urinal, ensuring all pissing customers get their trousers covered in their own urine (and presumably other customers too)...
If this trend is not stopped other very old pubs will have holes in their...
Read moreThe Monro is easily the best pub I’ve been to in the entire North West. A contender for one of the best pubs in the country, an atmosphere that evokes warmth from the second you walk in. A building and interior that’s moved with the times, yet maintained it’s authentic heritage.. and I can’t not mention the garage and beer garden, which I know will just be stunning in the summer. It fills up on a weekend easily even though the place is massive, with a second floor too. Their food is perfectly priced, hot and so tasty.. made up the road at the Papillon and cooked fresh in the oven upstairs. The Scouse pie I had was only £4 and was gorgeous, especially when sat in the garage beer garden. They also have a generous selection of crisps. The music they play is sublime, with a selection of indie, alternative, jazz, psychedelic, folk, old country, blues and post punk artists. Which is somewhat rare for a pub so close to the town centre. Where do I even start with the staff, some of the friendliest bartenders I’ve ever met, especially the manager Luke and Paddy. While they are wizzing around serving people, collecting glasses and cleaning.. their informal and genuine presence allows for real conversation that isn’t just small talk but also quite personal at times. Coming in on my own I was quite impressed with how quickly they made me feel welcome, providing me with a high quality service that I’ve not found anywhere else in town. This is my 4th visit, and I try and come in twice a week now, all the way from Chester too. I implore anyone who has not visited The Monro to do so as soon as possible. The...
Read moreI rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at this bar was disappointing enough that I feel compelled to share. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt unwelcoming. The staff appeared disinterested and inattentive; it took nearly 20 minutes just to get someone to acknowledge us and take our drink order, despite the bar not being particularly busy.
When the drinks finally arrived, they were poorly made weak, watery, and overpriced for what we received. The cocktails tasted like they had been rushed or made with subpar ingredients. One member of our party returned theirs and was met with visible irritation from the bartender.
The cleanliness of the place was another major issue. The floors were sticky, the tables hadn’t been wiped down, and the bathrooms were in a condition that made us question the hygiene standards of the entire establishment.
We had originally planned to stay for a few rounds, but we left after the first due to the overall lack of professionalism and comfort. With so many great spots in the area, there’s no reason to return here. I hope management takes this feedback seriously, this place has potential, but it’s being squandered by poor service...
