Had lunch on Monday July 22 2019. The pub is downstairs with seating outside if you like the sunshine. The upstairs restaurant is the star of the show. Its Under new management, and it's had a refurb. The colours are cool and classy. Dark teal and copper, mixed with natural brick. its massive windows, make it bright and airy, makes a lovely atmosphere. New booths with enough room for at least four, possibly six. Along with its more intimate tables around the room. Unlike most restaurants now they haven't crammed the tables in, So you'r not touching elbows with the stranger on the next table. The new menu is filled with food that is freshly cooked to order. You do not wait too long either. We had the special menu which consists of two courses for two people, We had salt and pepper chicken wings. 1 curry and 1 fish and chips. The chips are hand cut and home cooked., not at all greasy and super tasty. There is loads to choose from. With a pint of coke a medium glass of wine, a tea and a coffee the whole bill was less than £30.00. A bargain with table service from the lovely staff who where genuinely helpful and happy about it. The chef came out when we'd finished to introduce herself. I can honestly recommend the newly refurbished Shakespeare. We will defiantly be going again. It's right in the heart of the city centre and not part of the terrible chain pubs where the food is same old same old. It deserves to do well. My best wishes go to all as...
Read moreWould usually give this place five stars but this is for yesterday only. Our daughter was over from Southern Ireland for a visit so we went to Liverpool shopping and as we've always had a good experience here, took her for lunch. Soooo disappointed. I had steak and ale pie with mash and peas. Steak and ale pie fine, not quite up to usual standard but OK, and potatoes lumpy and cold. Our daughter ordered a 'sirloin steak' which was served about 10 minutes after our meal and was a flat, tough piece of steak that looked like the sole off a shoe, more like a minute steak nothing like a sirloin, but she wouldn't let me complain. I felt so sorry for her after we had praised this pub then was let down by it. Saying this, the staff are lovely and so helpful and I'm sure if I had complained they would have sorted it out for us. But unfortunately the experience tainted our day and our daughter went out again with another relative for another meal, later, as she was still hungry. So...
Read moreWe stopped here lunch time today (Tuesday) as we fancied something small to eat and seen they did sandwiches and jacket potatoes. The restaurant is decorated lovely and was clean and tidy. The 3 female waitresses were very friendly and welcoming. The food was basic (not in a bad way) and just what we fancied, a fried chicken wrap with chips and coleslaw and a jacket potato with cheese and beans. We ordered 2 lager shandies too which were a lot cheaper than other places. We enjoyed our lunch, the lovely atmosphere including the music and the upbeat friendly staff that served us. Overall I think everything was good value and would...
