Amigos is in the midst of an identity crisis. Is it a downgraded Five Guys in blue and yellow? Is it a levelled-up boss-man burger joint? Neither. It skillfully marries the prices of the first with the quality of the second. Amigos is a concept chain thought up, probably, by the scheming 3-shitelin-starred chef that revolutionised wetherspoons' fast food menu in 2007. Things should have been clear when ordering at the counter of the empty restaurant: "Have you ever been to Amigos before?" "No." "Ok, do you like chicken or burgers?" "Burgers." "Have a look at these burgers." "These ones have our very special Amigo sauce." "What's that?" "Burger sauce." From here on my sofa, cradling my upset tummy, I'm running through the long list of options Stoke Newington has to offer and thinking 'why Amigos?' It's because I'm stingy and I've been caught out by a fairweather friend. Would a true amigo fail to offer you toilet facilities anything less than 'ok I suppose' at 1pm on a Saturday? It isn't the hallmark of genuine amigo-ship to casually offer you peri-peri style salt flavouring with your fries without mentioning the secret 50 pence charge. Amigos aren't supposed to chuck in a thimbleful of bewildering minty tomato dip concoction with your order whilst holding back on basic ketchup. Alas amigos, avoid this joint like the high street economic vampire that it is. Ami-go somewhere else, you'll find...
Read moreDeliciousness personified. My personal favourite: 'The Jacob' - a perfectly cooked Pattie served with cremé cheese and an array of vegetables. Mouth-wateringly good.
@James Brillantes - A true amigo (And indeed a true comrade) would cut independent businesses some slack, ESPECIALLY during a pandemic. You're factually incorrect to say that 'Amigos' is associated in ANY way to the Wagamama's franchise. Your review is in fact libellous (I'd serve you papers but you really are irrelevant which should feel like a bigger insult then losing your money). In Stokey, we support independent business, we support owners that give young people jobs and we support a reviewing culture imbued with love. Go practise your reviewing shtick with a restaurant that actually deserves the hate (like Byron Burgers which deports...
Read moreI visited Amigos in Stoke Newington a few weeks ago and what a great experience the best service, staff were polite and very patient when my friend and I were indecisive about what we wanted. There was a guy I think may had been a manager he overheard us asking about something in particular and let us try the item for free ( fantastic customer service). The eating area was clean and comfortable and burgers were beautifully presented, hot and fresh. My friend and I loved the experience best burgers ever....but I would like to highlight again how great the staff were as that for me is very important when I go out to eat. I will be going back again with my husband and my children and really hope I have another...
