🚇 Bond Street 🍺 £4.60 Double Four Lager ❤️ A Sam Smiths pub with an angelic feel. . The Angel In The Fields is located in the heart of Marylebone on the corner of Thayer Street and Marylebone Lane. Bond Street is the nearest tube which is a five minute walk away. . As pub buildings go, this pub is very understated and almost inconspicuous. Whilst I was roaming around, I had to check Google Maps to make sure this was the pub I was looking for. . Inside, is a completely different ball game. The decor here is traditional with walls clad in dark wood panelling. The bar is also made with dark wood and is in an unusual position as it backs on to the window wall, never seen that before. The stand out feature here are the stained glass windows, they have a unique floral design which almost makes the pub feel sacred, which of course all pubs are. . This is a Sam Smiths pub so all the booze consists of in-house beers, wines and spirits. I had the Double Four Lager which is a nice session lager and costs less than a fiver. Upstairs is the lounge bar which is predominantly used as a dining area, the menu is British pub grub, Fish & Chips will set you back £13.95. . Because this is a Sam Smiths pub there are a few rules attached that you need to be aware of, no phones, laptops, ipads, speak and spells. Oh another thing, you need to mind your P&Q’s no swearing in here. . As this was a hot and sunny day the majority of punters were sat on the benches at the front of the pub, inside was quiet. There were a few inside, I sat by two Japanese ladies who were happily quaffing away on a couple of pints. I managed to have a chat with the Guv’nor, what a nice fella, he was telling me about how busy he’s been with recent Rolling Stones and Pearl Jam fans using the pub pre-gig. . Sam Smiths pubs seem to divide opinion but personally I’m a fan. The decor here is fantastic and even though there prices have gone up, the price point is still less than most London pubs. One other note, the last three Guv’nors I have met have been great, full of personality and happy to chat. . ℹ️ Info correct on...
Read moreWork locally so used to come here every week. There are a few outside tables and is local and generally ok. There's a smashing and energetic bar woman who comes outside to take orders, it was busy yesterday so after 20mins I realised she had forgotten, which is OK but I went inside to ask her if she had (which was fine as of 2 days ago when all orders were taken inside at the bar). This giant old crone then shrieks at me to get away from the bar and stand in the doorway, not really necessary to shout and this is new but I'll wait in the doorway as told. Then she tells me to go outside they'll take me order there which is fine we've been here for an hour anyway- I told her they had taken my order but I think they may have forgotten I'd just like to check. She interrupts shrieking at me again to go outside they'll come out when they're ready, I ask if she could please ask the bar girl if she has forgotten the drinks it's fine just - shriek again go outside we'll be there when ready....hmm OK.
After another ten mins outside a guy passes clearing drinks and ask him and yeah they hadn't gotten the order, again not really an issue but come on the attitude was rough. She hadn't even asked about the drinks (oversight for a pub) but probably because she hadn't let me finish. It's not my fault they changed the rules in 2 days and then shrieked at me for walking up to the bar like I have done every time the last 18 months like a naughty child.
Given that we spend over £100 a week here having after work drinks that has really ruined it.
Will be going to a new local now as I just don't really want to give that strange shrieking woman any more...
Read moreArrived, and went indoors after having a table outdoors. Getting was barely acceptable, did not make me feel particularly welcome. Ordered drinks and food. No big brand drinks were available which is fine. However, at least half of the drinks menu was not available. Every time we said, "ok, so you have that one?", they said "no, sorry". We ordered our drinks and perused the food menu. When our drinks arrived, we had the exact same issue. Every time we asked for an item of food, they didn't have it. We were already invested, so ordered from the small choice that there was. However, it would have been easier for them to either have a revised menu, or to at least pre warn us. So we ordered our food. 2 of ours came out, and we waited for the 3rd one. 5 minutes passed, and we asked the waitress and she said that it was on its way. Another 5 minutes passed, still no meal. 2 of us had to start eating as our food was getting cold. It was only Nachos we were waiting on! Eventually after 15-20 minutes, the chef came out and apologised and said that he hadn't received the order from the bar. By that point, 2 of us had finished eating our luke warm meals, and the 3rd person was not in the mood to eat alone. Very poor service and experience, I wouldn't recommend it...
