Food is the best, but definitely not even a 2 star atmosphere, more like 0.5 star experience. Can you believe the homeless looking window cleaner took his dirty rag from cleaning the windows and gave our table a quick wipe with the filthy rag, and i don't blame him at all because he was the only one trying to help.
Myself and another customer who had just arrived had to clear used dishes, etc, from our own tables and seek out tissues to clean our own tables. In the end, I had to get up and go to the kitchen area to demand someone clean my table properly. The staff didn't care at all or were so ignorant to what is expected of a restaurant i should have walked out with my guests.
Just very low class environment and not a place to take anyone for a classy experience. It was Shameful. The food is the best but the class i would describe as like being in a dusty, noisy street market in a poor undeveloped country, noisy ghetto atmosphere very low class. I guess you can't take that out of some people.
There was a group of men sat at a table conversating extremely loudly at the literal top of their voices joined in by staff as though they were in a gambling hall and with no regard for other paying customers. A guy even parked his bicycle in the restaurant next to a customers table so she couldn't even get up and move if she wanted to and this was ok for the staff. They should be embarrassed that they bring this low standard of restaurant to the UK to represent Ghana, and I'm not even Ghanian. I'm Caribbean. Take your food away if you like their food, but don't eat there. Take your food, and literally make efforts to find staff to pay and run from there.
Nigerian restaurants such as Enish have it correct. Go check them out instead if you want a better atmosphere and experience of West Africa and their food for your guests. Enish restsurants for example understand where they are and make such great effort to impress existing and new customers from all backgrounds and classes which is the experience you want and...
Read moreI wish I could write this review with a different tone, but after several experiences with Asafo, I feel compelled to share my honest thoughts.
The most prominent issue I faced, which occurred not once, but thrice, was the blatant disregard for my time and patience. On each of these occasions, I've been left waiting for my order for an extensive period, exceeding 75 minutes in one instance. Now, that would've been bearable if the situation was the same for everyone, but to my disbelief, several customers who arrived after me received their meals well ahead of me.
The defining characteristic that separated these patrons from myself? Their Ghanaian origin. This might sound like an overly critical observation, but after three experiences that replicated the same pattern, it's hard to dismiss the feeling of being overlooked and undervalued because I don't share the same background.
To make matters worse, the customer service at Asafo was incredibly disappointing. There was no genuine warmth, no authentic care in their service, which, as someone who values the dining experience as a whole, was a real letdown. I'm saddened to be writing this review, but it's important for potential customers to be aware of the issues they might face. There's a real need for improvement in Asafo's service, starting with ensuring that all customers are treated equally, regardless of their ethnic backgrounds.
For these reasons, I can't see myself returning to Asafo. It's unfortunate that a place with so much potential has left me with a bitter aftertaste, not from their food, but from their service. I hope Asafo takes this feedback to heart and strives to improve, for the sake of their...

Arguably (if not) one of the best West African food spots in South London.
Diminutive unassuming off the main road and away from the madness, excellent parking in and around area very accessable.
Where to begin...
Food 10/10 Value 10/10 Service 10/10
Such wonderful custom and service, arrive early to get a table (busy after 7) definitely needs to relocate as this place just requires more space (seats) but defo not a negative as this is obviously on the cards from the footfall observed.
Matchless West African custom, warm, attentive, just an intimate 'bistro' feeling.
And yes, patience is required! But once food is ordered - as with any great restaurant - the wait is worth it!!!
Absolutely delicious food, can't fault anything, salt, seasoning, depth of flavour, freshness - straight pan to plate dining.. nothing like it nearby.. for me nothing touches place, not even in 'Brixton'...
If your reading this, curious, and want to eat 'proper' no nonsense non a la carté bs or culturally appropriated gumption from pubs yet alone overpriced jerk fusion offerings from down the road... I'll recommend Asafo in a heartbeat.
Put simply - superb finger licking African food for all the family...
