Just had a very awkward and embarrassing situation whilst on my lunch break. I work opposite and had decided to grab my mum a fancy pastry for lunch. As I approached the door the Batista had already come across from behind the counter to open the door for an elderly customer that was leaving. At the same time a dad with a pram in tow was also trying to enter the shop. So once the elderly lady had exited the barista continued to hold the door for the gentleman with the pram. I made eye contact with her, and saw the moment that she decided that I was not worth continuing to hold the door open for. I stood still as I let the door literally close on me, but held my gaze with the girl until she thought better and opened it back up again. The whole thing was over in a second. But I wanted to point out the overly attentive behaviour to 'the right' type of person. I don't think race is the factor (even tho I am black) it's more to do with the fact that the first 2 customers were dressed well and appeared to be upper class/have money (even though the man hadn't bought his wallet and couldn't pay with apple pay so was given his coffee for free) and I am definitely dressed down today. I absolutely DO NOT expect anybody to run around and open doors for me at all...but I don't expect someone to STOP holding the door when they see me, and she 100 saw/made eye contact with me. I know you are short staffed often, but a coffee shop is somewhere that should absolutely feel inviting to people from all walks of life. I honestly hope this was a genuine mistake that I misinterpreted... and if you do respond with a comment to that effect I will remove this comment as I don't want to be nasty or malicious. But I wanted to bring attention this type of thing so everyone can have a better...
Read moreI used to love coming here when I lived in Acton, and was a paying customer for many years, however when I last came here a couple of months ago I noticed that the service had become somewhat rude and the quality of the food had diminished, and today my experience here has altered my opinion of this establishment completely. I was rushing to work and asked if it was possible for me to use their toilets before getting the train to which the woman behind the till replied ânot if youâre not a paying customerâ and smirked at me. I proceeded to calmly state that it is actually an offence for businesses with a public toilet to prohibit a non paying customer to use it, and the reaction and response that I received was pretty abhorrent. She proceeded to bark at me that if she had a piece of paper saying she wouldnât let someone use their toilet then that was her legality? I tried to respond nicely but the lady in question snapped at me again and said no and told me I was incorrect, even though I have proof on my phone that she was in the wrong. I was pretty shocked as Iâve never been spoken to so brashly and rudely and felt so unwelcome in an establishment. Itâs safe to say I will not be going back to this particular location, which is a shame as I like boulangerie jade as a chain, especially the one in Woolwich which has the...
Read moreI feel sad to give just two stars to this little cafĂ©. Itâs got nice staff and good pastries and is in a perfect location . BUT it feels abandoned and sad and has lost its umph. Coffee is served in paper cups as they actually donât have any real coffee cups. Itâs a total no no for me. Milk poured in a smaller cup for you to add to your little âpaper bucketâ. The interior is depressing with ugly chairs and tables pushed to the sides . No plants , no warmth and no feeling of them wanting us to be there. Thereâs a small outside bit but no tables , just empty cardboard boxes and a couple of crates. It feels to me like the owner has given up on the place . I wonât be returning and that saddens me. Churchfield road is a vibrant neighbourhood street with many cafĂ©s to chose from. Plenty of opportunity for good and healthy competition between them. I donât see why us locals should chose a shoddy paper cup in a depressing environment when 20 meters further on you can find the best coffee in town in a proper cup and feel welcome and part of something exciting . I hope the owners will find motivation to restore some well deserved love to this little sweet place. It deserves it! Looking forward to coming back once it feels welcoming enough. Until then, I wish everyone involved the best of luck and oodles of I...
