Cafe Med provides nice food, not exceptional, but in a friendly and warm environment.
Cafe Med is a beautiful restaurant in the heart of St. John’s Wood - and a little bit difficult to discover. I really liked the interior, the warm and friendly colours. This place has a classy yet relaxed atmosphere and seems to be a place where locals meet.
As you might expect at any half-decent restaurant, bread and olive oil was provided to kick off the dinner. While I really like bread, I found the slices I got here a bit too bland, soft, and boring - if bread can be boring. As I washed down the bread with a really tasty Chablis, I could live with that.
The bread was followed by a juicy fillet steak with properly peppery peppercorn sauce with fries and grilled halloumi cheese on the side. Yes, the cheese was completely unnecessary, but it complemented the salad garnish very well. The peppercorn sauce was sharp with a kick as it should be, one could only ask for actual peppercorns to be left in the sauce, but the taste was good, so why bother?
I was surprised by the sheer amount of fries I got. All fries had a nice colour, were thin and some were even crispy, others soft. Good, but not my favourite bowl of fries.
For dessert I had brownies, and I must admit, that I was a bit disappointed with the dish. It was okay, but somehow, I had expected something better. To get ready for my little walk home, I also ordered an espresso. They use Molinari beans, so you get an Italian style, bitter, coffee. I knew what I ordered, so it was okay and it was without question good to complete my dinner after all the food, but in general, I am not a big fan of bitter coffees.
I liked the overall atmosphere of Cafe Med, and if you live in the area and you are looking for a nice and relaxed place for dinner, you should definitely check...

Met a friend for an early evening drink on the terrace at Cafe Med. Later my wife and 6 month old arrived to join us. The terrace was almost empty (7/circa 10 tables free ).
Despite the place being very empty, as soon as my wife started to express breastmilk for our son, via a concealed pump, the waitresses demanded the table back!
We explained that we weren’t finished our drinks and that my wife needed time to pump. The waitresses at the request of the manager, still came back to our table two more times asking for the table back immediately.
We explained that my wife was expressing milk and the staff repeatedly asking for the table back was putting additional pressure on my wife, forcing her to leave even when she wasn’t ready and there were no other customers waiting for the table.
Really disappointed how the staff treated us.
We complained via email to the restaurant direct and they simply ignored us.
Is this how a restaurant should treat...
Read moreThis is a lovely restaurant, in the heart of St John's Wood, London. The restaurant is on the ground floor within a beautiful, classic, stucco building, with an extremely comfortable interior. It's spacious, so diners are not on top of each other, with plenty of room to move about. On warm days, or evenings, you can choose to dine outside on the comfort of the enclosed, raised patio. The tables have large umbrellas, and outdoor heaters, if required. In winter, or on colder evenings, there is a lovely fire in the main eating area, giving a cosy feel. The lighting is sensitive and thoughtful and the staff change the lighting as the day goes on. The service is professional, polite and friendly. An excellent menu and wine list are available with a wide and varied choice. It's not surprising this restaurant entertains a full house in the evenings, so you would need to book in advance. Alternatively, there are usually tables available for lunch, or a 'late' lunch. Highly recommended. Five...
