LIONS AND WAR VETERANS Chelseaâs emblem has existed in five different guises since the club was founded in 1905 and, apart from the four big alterations, has been modified a number of times to adjust to the market, and the tastes and fashions of the day. What few may know is that Chelseaâs crest has a close relationship to the British military. Todayâs lion is a relatively late idea and wasnât introduced until 1953. Until then, an image of a Chelsea Pensioner represented the club. The Royal Hospital Chelsea was founded in 1682 for veterans of the British Army, and Chelsea FC chose to honour the institution â leading to the clubâs first nickname, the Pensioners. In the early days, the emblem did not appear on the shirts but only on the match programmes. The Pensioner represented the club until 1952, when a temporary solution replaced the original before making way for todayâs blue lion, an emblem, among others, inspired by the Abbot of Westminster (hence the staff). This emblem remained until 1986, when the legendary owner Ken Bates, who led Chelsea to great triumphs in the 1990s, both simplified and modernised the lion. Roman Abramovichâs arrival at Chelsea in 2003 saw the return of the...
Read moreCame here to watch Soccer Aid 2024 âŠ. Not sure how much of an influence Chelsea FC had on ticket prices but we paid ÂŁ80 each for a reasonable seat but have us âaccessâ to the Chanpions BarâŠ.. donât exactly know what this meant but a double vodka and tonic, a pint of Singha and two chicken pies (turned out to be chicken curry) which I assumed were microwaved at some point cost me a whopping ÂŁ49 and pennies⊠half time couldnât get a drink due to queues and only having cans of vodka and raspberry and couldnât get access to the âChanpionsâ barâŠ. All in all disappointed with CFC and the âsecurityâ who we encountered and certainly would t go back there. Iâll happily attend another club to watch Soccer Ald âŠ.. Also forgot to mention tin the issue surrounding the person who served me coming over twice a day saying my payment hasnât gone through despite me showing him clearly it had left my account (banking apps are great) and me walking over to discuss again with a more âseniorâ member of the team who didnât have the decency to apologise for embarrassing me in front of my wife and other members of...
Read moreDated stadium given they are a supposed top rate Premier League club. I was in the "Shed End" as an Away Supporter. The young stewards were really pleasant putting up with a lot of aggro from an over zealous "jobs worth" senior steward who, to me, got a kick out of ordering the young kids around. A very serious failing, in my view, and hence the 2 stars was the hazardous steps pitch side. I was seated at the very top of block 3 / 4 steps, my seat was Block 3 Row 18 Seat 127. This was right of the top of the stand and at the top of the steps between blocks 3 and 4. Going down the steps before the game I slipped and nearly fell. Throughout the game I witnessed 4 other people not only slip but actually fall...one young man fell several metres and fell again when he tried to get up (he was not inebriated I hasten to add). The reason for the falls was that the steps were dangerously slippery. If Chelsea do not respond to this post explaining they are investigating the problem I will forward this post to the health and...
