China Garden — Restaurant in London

Went for a dinner for my dad's 66th. Service was horrible. The girl working (her own family restaurant) didn't tell us that kitchen was closing. As we wanted to order mains (10pm) she just said "sorry you can't anymore, kitchens closed ". Did not even warn us or tell us beforehand so we could order. She also said the kitchen was not happy with us (guessing this was the reason for her not warning us ) and I'm guessing this was due to saying my dad cannot have much salt on his food so asking them to reduce it before cooking the food (we did not send anything back to the kitchen we told them before ordering any dish). Her attitude stank and only when I got mad about how she spoke to my dad on his bday and her not warning us about kitchen closing , then she changed her mind and said " no it's OK you can eat dinner then go " bear in mind there was an hour left till the restaurant closed. We did not want to even finish the food we had at that point out of fear of what the kitchen would do to any further ordered food and due to her hostility.

We've eaten there so many times in the past bringing so much family there. Will not be going back.

I bought a takeaway meal for the evening. The sauce for the crispy duck pancakes was fairly solid with crystals in it. I took it back and they said that this was just because the kitchen was warm and that a replacement sauce would be the same. They said that all I had to do was to add warm water to it. On seeing the expression on my face the lady serving me then asked if I would prefer her to provide fresh sauce, which to she would add water and mix properly for me. I said that I would like this.

A few minutes later she returned with some sauce that was fine. However, I was disappointed that we had been served such poor quality sauce in the first place, let alone that it had been expected that we ourselves would know to add warm water to it without coming back to them.

I haven't marked them down too much because the rest of the food was fine and we have had nice takeaways in the past, but this was a very disappointing incident.

I wonder whether there are new people running the restaurant because I think that the staff are different now and that this would not have happened with the people who were there a...

The China Garden in Morden, Surrey - Can't keep it a secret any longer! My husband and I have been going to this amazing restaurant for over 40 years. Having eaten Chinese food for over 45 years in numerous restaurants, the China Garden in Morden is the BEST! The chef produces the most delicious food. Sunday lunch is a freshly cooked buffet, and the buffet menu is extensive, and opens from 12.00 - 3pm, Eat as much as you like, exceptional value at £13.95 per head. We highly recommend the smoked chicken, the large green lipped mussels in black bean sauce, and the barbecue ribs ( the meat is so tender, that the meat falls off the bones). The family are warm and friendly, and the service is excellent. We therefore have no hesitation in highly recommending this superb restaurant. Our biggest wish would be that this restaurant was in East Grinstead, where we live. Yes, we actually travel an hour to go to Morden for this exceptional restaurant.
