Cummin Up Caribbean Take Away and caterers — Restaurant in London

Working in Burgess Hill food choices were limited so decided to drop into Brighton for something different, Used the Just Eat App to locate a Jamaican Restaurant / takeaway and found Cummin Up. I arrived at around 8.00-9.00pm, Parking in the street behind is free after 6.00pm so good start, and walked around to Cummin Up. It is a small place with limited seats, more a takeaway with seating than a restaurant. But warmly welcomed by the guy behind the counter. They had just taken quite a large order and only had one person cooking so had to wait a while: Was worth the wait. I stayed to eat there, people watching through the window while waiting for the food. The portion sizes are decent, food was hot and full of flavour. The whole meal including main, rice n' peas, jerk dumplings, drink and pudding came to £11.50, and since I only could eat about half that put the rest into takeaway tins making it a meal to last two days - Excellent value. The good food and good service is let down a little by the size of the restaurant and tired décor, a little investment and this could become an excellent restaurant. UPDATE 09/09/2025- Im back, 22 hours later with explosive diarrhoea 🥲 i do intermittent fasting and only eat once a day between 6-8pm so i know for a fact it was the jerk chicken with rice and peas. I will be reporting to the Foods Standards Agency! UPDATE: 09/09/2025 - 18:05 pm - I did just call the restaurant to speak to them and give them a heads up that i will be reporting them and them did switch me from one person to another, i spoke to 3 different people!! before they decided to put the phone down and i could still here everything they said and they even call me foolish!! jokes on them i recorded the call!! Shoutout to Apple for that!! Best mind i don’t find myself in that shop!!

Awful, DON’T LISTEN TO JOE LYONS INSTEAD PAY ATTENTION TO 100’s OF THE ONE STAR REVIEWS and don’t bother. not only do they get their food orders wrong and forget drinks that you paid £3 for, they either undercook or overcook your food. Ordered via JustEat and when the food came the jerk chicken had absolutely no jerk sauce on it and I ordered an Irish moss but was sent a pineapple punch instead.

I called to address my issues. The woman who answered sounded fairly new and she basically said I didn't indicate on my order that I wanted it spicy. I told her this was the first time that this has been the case.

With regards to the drink, she told me "I sent you a pineapple punch because I thought it would have been appreciated"... I told her it wasn't and they could have at least made an effort to contact me to find out which alternative I would prefer, maybe I would have appreciated that more? The woman was just very unhelpful and made it sound like I had no right to call and complain. Standards at this shop are falling drastically.

I probably won't be buying anything from here again. Seems like getting payment is all that is cared about. I'll be taking my business somewhere else, a place that maybe just doesn't care about the...
