This is not only a review but a message to the manager.
I booked my brothers and sister in law’s baby shower here back in October 2023. We requested the garden/patio area as we were a large group including 2 dogs.
Our plan was to have drinks and snacks then head to the local park for a gender reveal party where we would pop balloons filled with confetti. However, on this particular day the weather was not in our side, non stop rain.
So, we decided to stick around at the pub and have a few more drinks. The rain was just not stopping, we started to consider doing the reveal in the garden of the pub so my brother even ordered about 50 pizza’s, this is on top of the already very large drinks tab. The pizza’s was terrible, sent out undercooked and only sent out 2-3 pizza’s every 10 minutes when we ordered 50 to keep the group full until the weather improved, still we didn’t complain as we realised it was a lot of pizza’s.
After discussing with my heavily pregnant sister in law to do the reveal in the pub, I just thought I’d confirm with a member of staff who asked me to ask a manager, the manager at the bar was apparently an assistant who told me they would not allow it because the confetti was to difficult to be cleaned up.
Now, I completely get this as it is true. However, I pleaded with this assistant manager, pleaded and explained the situation to her, I asked her to check with her manager who was hanging around the bar listening to the conversation and not stepping up to show some compassion and have some empathy for the situation. I offered to clean up myself, i explained that I would pop the balloon in the very corner of the garden where the rain was slightly seeping through and would be easy to sweep up, but NO! She cold heartedly denied, no compassion at all!
A big big shame to this management team for letting down this family and customer who had spent at least 1k in their pub on this occasion. And for what reason, for not wanting to make a customer happy just for wanting to avoid putting some extra elbow grease into their sweeping up of an already old and dingy pub garden. This is what establishments like yours are for, for hospitality! Which you lacked completely on this day! Not even a thank you when leaving for spending so much in your pub, I wish I hadn’t asked for your permission on the balloons and just went ahead and popped them there...

The Rose is located near Goldsmiths, University of London, in New Cross, southeast London. The nearest station is New Cross Gate, just across the road.
The pub opened around 1810, strategically located beside the newly opened Croydon Canal. It was later rebuilt in its current form in the late 1860s. For a time, the pub operated under the name The Hobgoblin. Following a substantial refurbishment and rebranding, it reopened as The Rose Pub & Kitchen in January 2015 and is now run by @urbanpubsandbars.
This is a one-bar, two-room pub that is traditional at heart with some contemporary touches. The main bar area is located at the front and features a good-sized servery with a modern glass gantry. The decor includes a boarded floor, comfortable conventional seating, exposed brick walls, and decorative cornicing. The room at the back is predominantly or dining and has a flagstone floor, ample seating, and fairy lights strung across the ceiling. At the rear of the pub is a large, partially covered beer garden with numerous benches and a few huts.
The beer lineup is solid, combining well-known keg brands with some local London brews. I opted for a Brixton Pale Ale, my pint was excellent, though the price point was a tad high. The food menu offers hearty pub classics, a range of pizzas, and roast dinners on Sundays which receive rave reviews. Fish and chips costs £17.
I arrived at 11:30 a.m. on a fresh Saturday morning in January. I was the first through the door and received a warm, friendly welcome from the team on duty. The pub had a nice, relaxed feel, so settling in was very easy. I had a brief chat with one of the management team, who told me about the comings and goings of the pub. She mentioned that it can get busy when the footy is on.
This was my second visit to @therosese14, and just like the first, it was thoroughly enjoyable. This ever-popular pub delivers an excellent all-around pub experience.

Read moreThis is usually my favourite place to take all my hinge dates, but not anymore! Went there during summer, and ordered potatoes to the table. But what did I encounter? Three unseasoned potatoes for £6? What a joke. Anyways. I went a couple nights ago and asked for gluten free options for beer, and when the bartender asked which one I wanted, I asked for her opinion, into which she turned around to her manager or supervisor and asked. I work in hospitality and can understand that some nights are tiring, however, I felt such a cold and heartless response: “Well a lager is different from an IPA isn’t it”. Question mark? I am a very spiritual person and can pick up on people’s energy very quickly and today I am feeling extremely eerie, which I can only assume came from picking up on this supervisor’s energy. Me personally, I would recommend using incenses to cleanse her and her space. I do regret not saying anything about the service when I was there, but next time I will just ask if she is okay and needs to book a tarot reading, because the energy was not giving. You may not take this review too seriously, fair enough, but please fix the attitude before serving me and my dates again, as I...
