First off- the food was excellent. This review is not for the chefs. If it were on food alone, it would be 5 stars, no question. However, the 2 stars is for the service. It is two not one star because there was one lovely waitress who started her shift after we received our meal and was lovely. Prior to this we were told, that despite the 35 degree heat and the fact that we were the only people there, if we sat on the top deck there was no way- even if we got heat stroke- that we could move downstairs. It was one or the other. It was a sunny day, naturally we wanted to sit upstairs, but didn't know (in our british-ness) how long we would last for! Then we had to order on our phones, in the blazing sun- no umbrellas. There was no flexibilty on this either, despite our phones being almost too hot to touch and not being able to see the screen. However if you sit downstairs, you can order off the paper menu. If it had been full, i would have understood the lack of flex, but we were the first people that day. These stipulations were not communicated with a smile, but with sullen faces. The epitome of computer says no. We tried to move table once sat into a tiny bit of shade and this was also met with resistance (by this time there was one other table booked). I run a restaurant. I never leave reviews like this, however on this occasion there were 3 out of 4 staff that treated us with what felt like real disrespect- they were plain rude. We were apologising for almost breathing! It was only when the one lovely lady came to us, that we realised how stressed we had been before! she was great- (longer browny/ red hair).. she is not included in this! It was my birthday so honestly we enjoyed the food and tried to ignore it, but it was massively below a neutral or not great service experience. As i said, the food was amazing. Maybe it was just an off day- it just happened to be a...
Read moreCame here with a friend on a Saturday for brunch and we were glad that we made a booking beforehand because it was extremely busy!
My friend was 20 minutes late but the waitress didn't rush me to order a drink. We ordered the sweetcorn fritters and banana bread sandwich. I had the banana bread and although it was good I wouldn't say that it was "award-winning" level kind of good because I was surprised and slightly disappointed to taste that it was rather cold and not warm or hot (hence the 4-star for me). I suppose different places do their banana bread differently so I wasn't used to it even though the flavour was really nice. The mascapone went really well with the rich taste of banana, alongside some blueberries, strawberries and almond flakes. Overall it was a really lovely combo and I enjoyed the food. The portion was so huge for me that I had to get the second slice of banana bread to go. My friend enjoyed her sweetcorn fritters too.
Although we were told via email that the booking was for 1.5 hours only, we actually stayed there for 2.5 hours but not once did they try to rush us at all so we were super pleased about that. There was a big group of people having a birthday party so another waiter had to ask us twice to move to another table which he felt very sorry about. To compensate this, we were told that we would get free drinks and were so glad to find out that our coffees were on the house so we only had to pay for the mains. This was a pleasure surprise and we were very happy with the service we received, they were professional and polite!
All in all, we had a very good experience here with nice vibes and interior design. It's certainly an interesting venue being located on a boat and would love to come back in the summer so we can sit upstairs and...
Read moreI live local and decided to drop in for a quick drink with my partner. The first thing to note upon entry was that the smell was rather dire. It smelt like the toilets hadn't been cleaned properly. We sat down as far from the toilets as possible to avoid the smell, which helped a little. We were told we had to order via the QR tag on the table, which is fair enough. Unfortunately, since they are made from a rather shiny metal tag, my camera just wouldn't read the tag. After many failed attempts, my partner decided to have a try on her phone, thankfully we finally managed to get it to work. I ordered a margarita, which tasted nice, but it was literally missing about 30% of the drink. Then a group of people came to sit next to us who seemed to have the same problem with the code. They tried varying tags on multiple tables but to no avail. The asked the waitress if they could just order from her and she refused to help them and just seemed more interested in talking to what seemed like her friends on a table near the bar. Suffice to say the group left rather disappointed. It seems absolutely bonkers turning away which would have been a large order over some failed system. I can't help but think it would have gone differently if they had some form of management there. The whole experience was a bit rubbish and the lack of care and help from the girl working there really put us off having more drinks. Summary: lacking cleanliness and a "computer says...
