I recently dined at Doggett's Coat and Badge restaurant with some guests from Poland, and I must say that the overall experience left a lot to be desired. While I had fond memories of the restaurant's delicious food, the service on this particular visit was severely lacking.

Our disappointment began from the moment we were seated. Despite the fact that the restaurant was far from busy, we sat at our table for a whole 45 minutes without anyone coming over to take our drink orders. This prolonged period of neglect was particularly frustrating given the empty tables around us. It left us wondering why the staff appeared so disinterested in serving our table.

Eventually, after multiple attempts to get the attention of a waiter, we managed to place our drink order. To our dismay, it seemed as though our request was promptly forgotten. We couldn't help but notice that there were three staff members leisurely conversing by the bar, seemingly oblivious to our needs. Only when we intervened and reminded them did they begrudgingly start preparing our drinks.

Throughout the meal, we found ourselves constantly having to remind our assigned waiter of our presence. His lack of attention and enthusiasm for serving our table was painfully evident. It became increasingly clear that our dining experience was far from a priority for the staff that evening.

This experience was exceptionally disappointing, especially considering that we chose this restaurant based on our previous positive experiences with its food. While the dishes we ordered were indeed tasty, the subpar service marred the overall experience. We left feeling unsatisfied and frustrated, vowing not to return to Doggett's Coat and Badge restaurant in the future.

In conclusion, the lackadaisical service we received during our recent visit to Doggett's Coat and Badge greatly overshadowed the quality of the food. It's unfortunate that what could have been a delightful dining experience turned into a frustrating ordeal. Hopefully, the management takes note of these issues and strives to improve their service standards for...

This started off well, but quickly went downhill. Starting with the positives, the presentation of the food was nice, the table was set nicely and the view was good.

Now lets get into the negatives. I ordered the beef shin brisket pie, which as stated on the menu comes with mash and carrot. The problem is, the ratio of mash and carrot to pie is completely off. By the time you've eaten half the pie you've run out of sides, which was a shame because the mash was phenomenal. The carrots were hard which was dissapointing. You could add ling broccoli for 3 pounds but as I was already paying 22 pounds for a pie you would hope you wouldn't have to buy extras to have a balanced meal.

Also towards the end of the meal I almost cracked my tooth on a a small piece of bone that was loose in the filling. Not the large decorative one they put in but one disguised in the filling itself. That completely put me off the food and I ended up not eating anymore. Thankfully I had already eaten most of it but jeez that was unpleasant.

I also wanted to mention the server was trying his best but was clearly understaffed. For 6-7pm in an area with many tourists at least 2 staff really should be on. Tables had to wait quite a while to be served which for a 20% service fee really didn't feel great. I want to make it clear that besides that the staff was a lovely person, this is clearly an staffing issue. No one can handle everything at once alone while also juggling that many tables.

There are a million and one good pubs in London, I wouldn't waste your money on an average one. For 30 pounds plus for a main and a drink go...

Poor management and communication

I am extremely disappointed with how my booking inquiry for 31st May 2025 was handled. I first contacted the venue on 26th December 2024 to request the date, and throughout our communication, there was no indication that a deposit was urgently required to secure the booking or that the date might not remain available.

Between 3rd and 8th January 2025, I exchanged several emails with the venue, during which I was led to believe the date was being held for me. On 8th January, the manager was still in contact with me about the booking, despite the fact that another party had already secured the date with a deposit on 7th January.

I visited the venue on 11th January to confirm my intention to book the date and was told I could still have it only to receive an email on 14th January informing me that the date was already booked. At no point during my visit was I told that the date was unavailable, which makes this experience even more frustrating. Had I been informed earlier, I would not have wasted my time visiting the venue or gone through this unnecessary disappointment.

The lack of transparency, conflicting information, and failure to communicate important details reflect disorganised and unprofessional management. To make matters worse, I did not receive an apology for the poor handling of my inquiry. This situation could have been avoided with clearer communication and better organisation, but instead, it has left me feeling very frustrated...

The family came here for a pre-theatre dinner. The views across the Thames in the curved windows are just lovely and make a great conversation point. The restaurant was very clean and the good was all delicious and very well presented. There were two hardworking staff on: it was extremely busy (all tables full and people queueing). The waiters were really friendly and acknowledged everyone but the management really need to staff the place better. It's not fair at all to have just two people taking orders, serving, cleaning tables, welcoming people, making the drinks, sorting out the bills etc. They did their best and it was great but the service was very slow. I went up to speak to the waiter called Wez to explain that we had a show to catch so could he please come and take our order and bring us the bill at the same time. I apologised for seeming pushy but we were short of time. Wez was just exceptional. Despite it being so busy and rushed, he took his time with us to make sure the order was correct and brought us everything as soon as it was out. I work in pub hospitality myself so I know how hard it is when you're left under staffed but still trying to do a good job. Management, please sort it out. You're in prime London location, loads of people are coming for dinner and theatre shows, there should be more than two people serving on a Saturday night.

Stopped in here for lunch with an old family friend. (Tuesday 28 March, 2023) It was my last afternoon in London and I had to have some fish and chips before heading back to Amsterdam. I was completely delighted with the quintessential British “pub experience” from the moment we entered. Charming atmosphere with a gorgeous bar that welcomed and invited you to sit down for a drink. We grabbed a table (21) and checked out the menu. I came in looking for fish and chips then I became undecided when I saw all the classic dishes available! I was almost swayed towards a meat pie but went with my first choice of Nicholsons Fish and Chips. My friend ordered the Soup of the Day. Service was prompt and friendly and the food was mouthwatering delicious. The atmosphere and the food were the perfect end to my quick visit into London. After leaving I immediately recommended your establishment to my friends that were staying at the Sea Container Hotel nearby. Hopefully they’ll pop in as well. This restaurant has now become a “must visit” spot for me the next time I’m in town. Then I’ll order a pie for certain. Wonderful place to spend a rainy London afternoon catching up on gossip with a very dear family friend while enjoying a drink and some classic cuisine. (Was too anxious to try the food so I almost forgot to snap a picture. Oops. LOL)

After staying across the street for a week decided we had to stop here for a meal. We called ahead to make sure a reservation wasn’t required but the number listed on the Google Maps & Website said it wasn’t a working number. The environment once inside just as you’d imagine, having a bit of a pub feel inside as there is one downstairs, it was nice and lively which added to the atmosphere. The restaurant is up, which was quiet and quite empty save a table with a couple. We sat next to the window and the waitress gave us a few moments to check out the menus. Steak & Nicholson’s Pale Ale Pie; Beef cooked in Nicholson’s Pale Ale, encased in shortcrust pastry. (Awarded gold at the British Pie Awards) And Baked Macaroni, served with garlic ciabatta bread. With a touch of salt and pepper added the meal was tasty, warm and a great last meal for our trip in London. As we sat the room filled quiet a bit tables with families, perhaps co workers again adding to a great atmosphere not to quiet but not like downstairs.
