A friend took me here to treat me to lunch. I ordered a 'meal deal' listed on the menu as a sandwich, slice of Victoria sponge cake and a pot of tea. My friend ordered Victoria sponge and a pot of tea. The cheese and chutney sandwich I chose was made from thin sliced, cheap supermarket style bread, with a few thin slices of bland (probably mild cheddar) cheese; the main taste was that of the chutney. The pot of tea was nice but, we were not given enough milk, and had to request more. After waiting for quite some time for my cake to arrive, I went to the counter and, politely told the lady that I hadn't received my cake. Without so much as a word to me or, even looking at me, she cut a slice of cake onto a plate, and then, still ignoring my presence at the counter, she handed the plate to the waiter, and told him to take it to my table. I found her attitude to be extremely rude. When the cake arrived at our table we noticed it was an extremely small slice - less than half the size of my friends portion. She took it to the counter to point out it was a very thin sliced and was told that was how it comes as part of a 'meal deal'. It was not stated on the menu that you would only get a thin slice of cake! The 'victoria sponge's had only a jam filling, with no cream. There were a few blobs of pink cream piped around the outside of the cake. So I would class that as a jam sponge. So: poor service, a rude woman behind the counter, a cheap, tasteless sandwich, having to ask for enough milk, a penny pinching slice of cake and, a jam sponge masquerading as a Victoria sponge. As someone else suggested: the lady behind the counter lacks the qualities needed for friendly, polite customer service. Needless to say, that was my first and, last visit Dotty's Tea House. If you read my other Google reviews, you will notice I seldom give such a...
Read moreI visited Dotty's Teahouse for the first time today with my sister and great niece and was so impressed....I loved the atmosphere,it was so friendly, clean and welcoming, the hot chocolate is to die for as well as the cake and bread pudding, lovely clean toilet and a nice little children's play area, we wasn't rushed to give up our table at all and there were lots of little interesting bits and pieces you could purchase around the Teahouse....all in all I would highly recommend Dotty's if you love the traditional cup of tea in China teapots and cups and wonderful cake....as well really nice staff and good prices too! I went back to Dotty's Teahouse yesterday with my son after 3 years, because of the Covid Pandemic and other health issues I hadn't been able to go there...I was really was disappointed!!! What a change...and not for the better, the beautiful place with the wonderful Alice in Wonderland wallpaper had changed so much along with the menu and the prices, gone were all the lovely big, overindulgent.....hard to choose from selection of sandwiches, cut and come again cakes which had been replaced with odd coloured cheesecakes, uncovered biscuits and other sweet snacks...and the £10 meal deal had gone from the menu...which was a bargain and affordable for us on a budget! We were faced with cramped tables,a bit of a sloppy service, chipped cups and high prices (£7 for a prawn sandwich)I used to love the little back section in the tea house which was a little more private and had a nice relaxed unrushed setting. It's such a shame that you tried to fix something that wasn't broken....trying to go up market and trendy hasn't quite worked in what used to be a lovely traditional teahouse and it has sadly ruined a lovely place...I'm not to sure if I'd go back again now....very...
Read moreReally couldn’t say enough great things about this tea house. I’m visiting family in England, and this was my first tea time experience. We all went out as a family, including the children, the youngest of the bunch being a 1 year old and 3years old. Dining with children of this age can be difficult with temper tantrums, and the everyday particularities of children; however Michelle and Alma made us feel so welcome and were super understanding. The children really took to them! In such a short time my children seemed like they found kindred spirits in them. Such an unexpected and wonderful moment to be shared with them.
Now, about the food. I went for a tea experience, so I got the authentic English tea and scones with cream and jam. I was a little apprehensive about the English tea, because I’m more of an herbal tea drinker…. and I’m not a fan of milk; but I was delightfully surprised. I combined my tea, milk, and sugar as instructed and took a sip; 4 full tea cups later, I can now add English tea to my roster. They had a lunch menu available for the time we attended. I was thinking of ordering the chicken club…. But I was discouraged by the fact that sliced bread was used instead of a bun and decided against ordering. I ordered and cheese sandwich for my 1yeaf old… and when he decided to take over my scones with cream and jam I took a few bites of his cheese sandwich. The sliced bread was soft and had great texture. I instantly regretted not ordering that sandwich. The tea and scones were very filling, so I didn’t really have room for more food anyway.
All in all the food was delicious, and the customer service was beyond what I expected!! Can’t wait to make at least one more trip back before the end...
