🚇 Parsons Green 🍺 £6.60 Pravha
The Duke on the Green is located on the southern edge of Parsons Green in southwest London. The nearest Tube is Parsons Green on the District Line.
This stunning Grade II listed pub was built in 1892 and was originally named the Duke of Cumberland in honor of Ernest Augustus, son of George III. The exterior is quite magnificent with granite columns, leaded arched windows and glazed brown tiles.
This stylish, one-bar, two-room pub blends classic Victorian charm with contemporary touches. The main bar area is located at the front, with the servery on the right-hand side, featuring ornate woodwork detailing. The bar is generously sized and offers plenty of mixed seating, an impressive period fireplace, hardwood floors, Corinthian columns, and a wall of stunning decorative Victorian tiles. The room behind the main bar is set aside for dining and features comfortable mix-and-match seating and colourful contemporary decor.
This Young’s pub offers a selection of popular, well-known beers, plus some independent brews and two cask ales. I went with a Pravha—my pint hit the spot, price point was above average. The food menu features seasonal British classics, including Sunday roasts. For comparison, fish and chips costs £18.50.
I arrived at 11:30 a.m. on a warm and sunny Saturday morning in May. The pub had only just opened and already had a few punters both inside and out. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed, making it easy to settle in. The service was excellent—the team on duty were welcoming, friendly, and personable. I took a seat at one of the tables near the tiled wall and took in my surroundings while listening to an excellent soundtrack that included Joe Jackson’s Steppin’ Out.
This was my second visit in recent months—the first during the Six Nations, when the pub was packed. This time was more relaxed, but I thoroughly enjoyed both experiences. It’s a classy pub with heritage tiling, a vibrant bar, quality beers, and classic seasonal cuisine. A must-visit London pub.

Read moreVisited on Easter Day with my girlfriend, my brother and his girlfriend and can honestly say one of my worst food experiences in Sunday roast and In food in general in 7 years in London. Do yourself a favour and avoid at all cost! (Save yourself a good amount of money as well). We ordered four roast beef to a close-to-non existent staff that simply pretends outside tables and customers are invisible. We received decent portion in size, but when we made the waitresses notice the meat was cold and though to chew the answer was: this is how we serve it. When they came to collect 4 barely touched dishes, again we complained about the all experience in general and again the waitress was less than interested in listening us out and more in making sure to collect the payment ASAP. Again, London has approximately a zillion pubs serving Sunday roast in the same price and area range but on completely different quality level. Only regret, my brother was visiting for Easter and I really wanted him to try a traditional Sunday roast. Needless to add he left with no particular desire to try it again...
Read moreReally disappointed; booked a table for some friends for a roast over a week in advance. We turned up to be told our table wasn't available and we would have to eat at the bar. Numerous drinks orders had to be repeated over the course of the wait for the food - about an hour. When we complained, one of my friends was told "well you didn't book so what do you expect" - I imagine they thought this as 8 of us were sat on stools where they had placed us. When it came, the food was delicious; it's such a shame there isn't a connection between the kitchen and the front of house staff as service was very poor and disorganised. After dinner, single malt whiskey was served in shot glasses and when we asked for tumblers (for 6) we were presented with one glass with a bit of water and one ice cube. When coming to pay we refused to pay service (as there was none) and then overheard the waiters bitching to the manager about it. As a local it would have been good to have a nice pub to go back to but I will be sticking to the Brown Cow and the Sloaney in the future and advising my friends to...
