We were a party of 9, celebrating my boyfriend's birthday. Prior to the booking, I have made the restaurant aware that I will be bringing a cake and it possible, please bring out the cake after dinner with a candle. This was all agreed.

We booked through First table and I was fully aware of the terms and conditions (the restaurant can only hold the table for 15 mins, otherwise they can refuse service). The moment I knew we were going to be late, we contacted the restaurant and explained the situation only to be greeted with an abrupt tone of annoyance. we were 19 mins late and upon arrival, the host already the screen ready to show me the terms and conditions@ I was not planning to insist we get the 50% off; quite the contrary, I was rather apologetic for being late.

Not a great start, but we still sat down anyway. We ordered the food in a hurry, knowing that we should not delay the kitchen any further, considering we know it would be a large order. However, at no point did any FOH staffs came to introduce themselves, ask whether they can recommend anything on the menu or even offer any water!

The dishes came one by one and the staffs were eager to move the empty plates the moment we took the last piece. By the time, we receive the last disk (steak), it was cold and very salty. My friend ended up taking it home.

By the end of the meal, I saw, who I think is the manager, just left the cake on the bar counter. No means of taking it out of the bag, putting a candle as requested. My friend had to take go up to the bar counter and take the cake out by herself and ask for a candle. One would have thought, at least bring some plates and a knife? No, we had to ask for a knife! We wanted to be considerate to the team and try not to hold them up from going home, so we asked for takeaway boxes to distribute the cake; we were only given three. How do you split the boxes to make them into 9??!

We were charged for some food that we did not receive and charged for items we did not order. I even pointed it out to the manager, who could not care less and just stood there with the card reader.

All in all, it was an awful experience, I must point out that the waitress was excellent, very smiley and polite.

To be truly honest, we all work in hospitality and we all know how annoying it is to have a large table coming on a weekday at 9:30pm but at least show some professionalism and try to facilitate the guests basis dining needs. we would not...

We were sat fairly close to the door which wouldn’t have been a problem if the door stayed shut when closed. This led to me and another diner on a separate table having to regularly get up and close it as it was absolutely freezing with it open. We then asked if we could move tables but the waiter said that it wouldn’t be possible as they were fully booked despite there being empty tables in the back where it was much warmer. It then took 30 minutes for our order to be taken. Despite no mention on their website when booking we had only the option of ordering off the Valentine’s Day set menu. After waiting 30 minutes for our order to be taken and another 30 minutes spent waiting for our food we then realised the waiter had forgotten to put our order through to the kitchen. We were given a small bottle of sake as an ‘apology’. After an hour of waiting our food finally arrived. The ‘valentines set menu’ consisted of a starter, sushi platter, sushi rolls, a main and a dessert. We were given all our food and once with almost no room for us to move on the table, this also meant that by the time we had enjoyed our starters and sushi our mains were completely cold. While the small amount of food we did in enjoy was great there was simply too much food for just two people. We then saw others being served items that were not on the set menu and on the regular menu. This was a shame as if we could’ve order off the regularly menu like we planned the food would have been much more enjoyable. Too add to the already frustrating meal, both a sushi roll and the dessert were never given to us. By this point me and my girlfriend were frustrated, freezing and just wanted to leave. While the waiter added a small discount of £12 off of an £140 bill to our meal for our ‘troubles’ it was nowhere near enough considering we did not receive 2 courses, the food was cold and we were cold. Overall a very disappointing night. Overpriced and with a poor layout I would not...

I recently went out for dinner with my partner and reserved a table for 6 PM to take advantage of the early bird menu. Unfortunately, we had to ask for the menu as it wasn't provided upfront. We started with edamame, which was served promptly and simultaneously for both of us. However, the experience quickly went downhill from there.

About 10 minutes later, my partner's starter arrived, and it took another 10 to 15 minutes for mine to be served, with no apology or explanation for the delay. Things only got worse when my partner's main course was served in parts—her salmon arrived first, and the rice that was supposed to accompany it was delivered 5 to 10 minutes later.

My main course, a steak that cost £7 extra on top of the set menu price, was served 15 minutes after my partner's, and it arrived cold. We had to flag down the waiter to express our concerns, and when we asked to speak with the chef, we were simply offered to have the steak reheated with no apology or offer of fresh food. After waiting for another 10 minutes without anyone coming to speak with us, we approached the reception to request for money to be removed as I did not have a main course. Instead, they deducted only £6.40 and claimed they had removed the service charge as a gesture of goodwill. However, this amount didn’t even cover the additional costs to have the steam.

The waiter then went over to his manager and whispered in front of us, forcing us to approach them three times before they finally agreed to remove the charge and issued an apology for the first time.

We would have been more understanding if the restaurant had been busy, but we were the first to order, and not once did we receive an apology until we were about to leave. I’m not one to leave negative reviews, but the service was terrible, the food was served cold and at the wrong times, and there were quite a few fruit flies around, which is simply...

I booked this Izakaya for a date night with my wife for Valentine's day. As with most restaurants, they only offered the tasting menu, but it looked good and was fairly priced. I was very much looking forward to trying out this 'izakaya' as I have been on the lookout for an authentic one for some time now. In all honesty the food was pretty sub-par, the sushi was ok, the mango maki was really strange as it was just too sweet. It didn't go well and not really what you would expect to have with sushi. The tempura was not cooked well, the batter was soggy. The tempura only came with one prawn, which I think was pretty stingy for two people on Valentine's day and as part of a tasting menu. I ordered the rib eye teriyaki, and boy was it disappointing. The menu itself made it sound like a steak, which I asked for medium rare but when it came to the table it was small pieces of deep fried and then soaked in teriyaki sauce. It was deep fried to the point where I could not tell which part of the beef it was, and if I wasn't told I may have mistaken it for deep fried pork (similar to dee fried sweet and sour pork found at your local Chinese). I couldn't finish it. My wife got the black cod in cooked in miso, the fish was overcooked and the miso was far too sweet. By this point my wife and I had really lost all interest in the meal, so tried a bite of each dessert when it arrived, again not very good at all. We left half our mains and most of our dessert. The sake flight (£15 for 3) were good value and it was a nice selection of Sakes. The staff were attentive and the service was good. We won't be returning in future. If you are looking for something close to Izakaya food and prices, I would suggest Eat Tokyo. It has the best selection of Izakaya type food at very reasonable prices, and in all honesty my wife and I should have went there instead.

My friend and I were hungry and gave this a try without looking into the menu or reviews. We wish we had. The menu isn't anything like what a real izakaya would do with plenty of small cooked dishes to mix and match, complemented with alcohol. Instead, most small dishes are sushi and sashimi. Some food portions were tiny (like the few teaspoonfuls of salmon tartare for £10). 😳😬 The signature 'volcano' rolls have what I would describe as a very unconventional piled-up presentation where flavours were all mangled. One couldn't really see, let alone taste, the snow crab that's supposed to be in the rolls... 😒 The ambience was designed to be chic (dark, minimalistic), great if this is what you prefer but there's not a small hint of a Japanese izakaya. It was pretty noisy too due to the lack of soft furnishing and hard walls bouncing noises. It was hard to have a good conversation. The service was average --- I don't think we interacted with the staff except when ordering the dishes, getting food on the table and asking do the bill. The 12.5% service charge for that 'basic' service felt excessive, but we didn't have the energy to enquire or argue. The bill, for food and just 1 bottled water, came up to £89, that's almost £90. We could have had much a more authentic and satisfying Japanese meal elsewhere in London for the same price, if not less. It was a rather pricey but underwhelming experience overall.

Edo Izakaya has a cool, laid-back ambiance with warm lighting and sleek interiors that set the stage for what feels like it should be a standout Japanese dining experience. While the atmosphere and service were solid, the food itself was a mixed bag. We started with the tuna sashimi, which unfortunately was a letdown. The cut lacked freshness and flavor, falling short of what you'd expect from a place that positions itself as a modern izakaya. On the other hand, the seabass carpaccio was a pleasant surprise - light, zesty, and well-balanced, easily one of the better dishes of the night. The vegetable gyoza and chicken karaage bao were decent, but neither particularly stood out. The gyoza had a nice sear, but the filling was on the bland side. The bao was fluffy and the karaage crispy, but the flavors felt muted overall and the kimchi was a surprise. A solid mention goes to the seaweed salad, which brought a fresh, umami-rich crunch that paired nicely with the heavier dishes. Unfortunately, the prawn tempura rolls missed the mark, the batter felt soggy and the filling was underwhelming being under seasoned. Overall, Edo Izakaya has potential, especially with its inviting atmosphere and some standout dishes, but consistency in execution would go a long way. Worth a visit if you’re nearby, but temper expectations when it comes to the sushi and sashimi.
