People expecting westernized Chinese food will be very disappointed at this restaurant. This place serves very authentic Sichuan / Manchuria dishes. It is vastly different to the usual (Cantonese) Chinese you'd get from Chinese restaurants in the UK.
Sichuan / Manchuria dishes often come with heavy and intense flavor (note: heavy on salt, pepper and chili) and the dish would be quite greasy.
The price here is cheaper than most of the Chinese restaurants you find from China Town / Queensway area.
The restaurant sits on a former post office site and I was able to tell it was a post office before. So don't expect much from the decor.
This restaurant is also very "Chinese" cultural-wise. So again very different to what you'd expect from normal Chinese restaurants you'll find in the UK.
Overall my family and I agree the dishes served here are very authentic and tasty - in fact some of the dishes taste exactly like how it should be if you are to dine in China.
However, if you are after things like the Sweet and Sour, Black bean or the typical Canton Chinese dishes, stay well clear from this place.
I give 5 stars purely because the food here is authentic and tasty. Not ideal for romantic date or any date since the restaurant IS an empty post office with dining...
Read moreBe careful if you order through Deliveroo, as the restaurant is using their own driver. So if their driver can't get hold of you (claimed buzzed & called, but didn't get through lol I don't think so...), they probably will be left the food on an unattended reception. When you trying to resolve this with the restaurant, instead of a resolution, you will be accused of everything. Don't even think about the refund, they will say no to that too. Because in their mind when the food gets delivered (to an unattended reception when the driver is already in the building and not deliver to the correct door number) so it is not their fault to refund you. lol
So who's responsible for an order that never arrived to the customer? The answer is the customer. The food may taste good, but I guess I never know. You may need to train your staff properly on the part of how to deal with customer complaints and how to communicate with the customer. What a perfect night just got ruined, thanks for that. Just another restaurant that I need to avoid...
Read moreThis is one of those places that you appreciate more if you know Chinese cuisine. Chonqging is the hometown of the best foods served in China. The famously known hot pot is originated from there. If you want to have some real authentic food served in a quiet environment just by a very busy area, Chonqging is your place, without any doubt. The name of this restaurant is very misleading. You would think that this place is a regular Chinese restaurant in Old Street, but actually it is way more than that. If you are able to read Chinese, the name of the restaurant is a major city in Southwest China. It is well known that Chongqing is famous for its food and most people from there are very proud of their own cuisine for a very good reason. I will definitely come back to try more dishes and a comment for the previous bad reviews. Don't come here if you are cheap. Fried rice is a side dish not a...
