As a non vegan I have to commend the food at Essential Vegan. The Jack burger with onion, kale, carrot and jackfruit was yummy, juicy and full of flavour. The dessert did not disappoint - moist and sweet enough. The cassava chips were on the dry side but a great alternative to the humble potato chips. Price wise, and unlike other vegan food spots, Essential Vegan is reasonable - £8 for a burger, £4 for a slice of cake and £3.50 for the chips. The portion sizes are adequate. While they do not stock alcohol customers are welcome to bring their own booze which is a good option.
The service could do with a jolt of enthusiasm and the plate delivery with some coordination - as opposed to a slow trickle leaving some people at the table waiting for others to get served.

Soup was lentil, average taste with too much nutmeg /garam Masala
Burger was flawless. Jackfruit one. Can't praise it enough.
Chicken nuggets (tempeh) was not to my liking... But then again as a vegan who has never eaten meat... The taste was not one I was privy to before...
Cassava chips were good.. If recommend they dust off excess oil with paper towel before.. But taste was nevertheless nice.

Read moreWent today to this cosy and unpretentious place - a rarity in this neck of the woods - ran by a good humoured staff. Simply put: the food is top notch. Tried the suggested Gourmet burger and enjoyed it until the last bite (disclaimer: not a vegan myself). The combination of cashew cheese and apricot sauce was delicious as were the cassava chips - crisp and mouthwatering. After the good surprises decided to have a go at the attractive cakes and finished off this lovely visit with a pina colata cake. Definitely going back to try the rest...
