As a repeat customer I often pop in if I’m on the high street, and have bought multiple friends and family to this cafe - who go on to bring people too.
I am familiar with the staff who often wave to me as I walk by in the morning with my dogs.
Today I decided to pop in for brunch after doing errands in the area - I had already brought a coffee, but this time I had forgotten my own flask which I usually ask them to put the coffee in.
After making my order in Fee & Brown, to my great surprise the barista that usually greets me on the street made a point of approaching me and making a sarky remark about me not buying my coffee from the cafe and bringing my own in (at this point I had already been greeted by this person upon entry, been seated, and ordered two dishes - no issue raised), something which is quite normal as people might go to a cafe to simply get a bagel, or breakfast, and may already have a coffee in their own flask.
Despite being a frequent customer, and despite having some level of rapport with this person, they were arrogant and unapologetic when I spoke to them about it. The type of attitude that does not belong front of house.
The cafe is overpriced and overcrowded but it’s saving grace for me is the food and nice atmosphere - but the main male barista is arrogant. An unfortunate stain on an otherwise pleasant cafe.
When pulled up on his unprovoked comment, instead of apologising he acted in an immature manner - and as I left, keen to get the last word he told me not to come if I have another coffee, despite me often spending upwards of £20 per visit.
I’ll do him a favour and not come back at all.
You should inform customers of any ground rules (if any), rather than greet them at the door and give no indication that there is a problem, and once they have made an order make childish snipes at them as you cut past their table. I would have had no issue putting my drink away had I known it was an issue.
Fortunately Beckenham is a lovely area with plenty of choice. In my 3 decades here I have seen many Fee and Browns come and go.
I was wrong to treat this person as an adult and try to speak with him. Good luck to him, I hope speaking to your customers like that in this economy...
Read moreVisited here a few months back…looked new and cool from the outside. Coffee was good, but not that good given the extremely expensive price! I asked for avocado on bread and eggs…. The avocado spread was as thin as paper! It was almost like they had spread the avocado like it was butter, so thin I could plainly see the bread underneath. The bread was your regular white Hovis, no option of sourdough or the usual bread you get with brunch. When the eggs arrived, they were fried, and this may have been my fault for not checking first, but usually, this sort of brunch comes with poached eggs. Though this did not bother me, I was happy for pay for 2 extra poached eggs. I was told they don’t do them?! I was rather shocked to hear that they can’t plop two eggs into a boiling pot… but hey!
Though when I asked for the poached eggs and made it clear that I was happy to pay extra… the server acted like I had requested the strangest thing on earth. I didn’t ask to take the fried eggs back or anything I wouldn’t waste food like that (ever!).
Afterwards, the servers decided to gather by the till, look back at me repeatedly and whisper. Now, as this isn’t something I can verify, I would say it could’ve just been them chatting. But it’s still not the best look?!
Given how many coffee shops there are on Beckenham high at (I think 8) they should atleast offer boiling eggs? Anyways, I ate my food, which was subpar at best. The eggs were so well done, it was like...
Read moreI have visited Fee & Brown on Easter Monday. I ordered Ciabatta with Feta and Tomato which was heavily overpriced at £7. My girlfriend ordered toast with 2 fried eggs and added avocado and halloumi for extra £2 each. It came with thinly spreaded avocado and two tiny pieces of halloumi. Toast itself was one slice of bread which was cut in half so it takes up more space on the plate😳🤣 The whole toast price was around £9 with the added items. The entire experience was shocking and it was a complete rip off. We complained and the waitress agreed with us and gave us £5 discount. We had still paid for both of our breakfasts and two lattes over £19.5. The place has a nice vibe but its crazily overpriced for what you get. Review pictures are misleading because at the end of the day you just get a toast with a fried egg which you can get in any other cafe...
