ASK Italian - Beckenham — Restaurant in London

My recent dining experience at the Beckenham branch of Ask Italian was unfortunately very disappointing due to the poor service we received. Upon arrival, we were told by a waitress ( who was just standing behind the bar) to simply choose whatever table we would like, but as we walked towards a table, a waiter abruptly told us we couldn't sit there. It was frustrating to then see other customers seated at the very same table moments later.

After being seated elsewhere, we waited for about five minutes before being given menus. Within two minutes, the waiter returned to ask for our drink order. When we informed him we weren't ready, he dismissively gestured towards an online ordering card on the table, despite the restaurant being relatively empty with only two other tables occupied. He repeated this action again shortly after.

The waiter's rude and unhelpful attitude created a very unwelcoming atmosphere. Given the poor service and lack of hospitality, we ultimately decided to leave before ordering any food. It was an incredibly...

The service ruined the whole experience, very discriminating!

We booked a table for 2 to celebrate my husband’s birthday today. The female manager was very chatty to all the other customers around but not us . I’m not sure why , except the only possible reason is we’re the only Asian customers at that moment ? The gentlemen sitting next table was also celebrating his birthday, however was treated a lot nicer than us in the way how she interacted with.

After serving the starter, she checked if everything is okay (I understand this is a very standard process), we were not complaining but honestly said the king prawn is quite salty and not as expected as last time we had it. Her response was “oh that comes with standard recipes I’m afraid” then walked away. It’s so awful !!! If any comments about the food is meaningless, why did you you ask about it ?!

At last at check out, we just wondered if there is any birthday offer we might probably missed. She strictly said “ No” .

Lovely decorations and the food was tasty, but the presentation was not the best (one of the desserts arrived half dilapidated). ordered fruit for dessert and it was not disclosed that there was only one option of fruit left available before ordering and that there’d be icing sugar underneath (i cannot eat icing sugar). The waitress we had kept leaving while we were in the middle of asking for items to be ordered so ended up having to go to the bar to ask for condiments, I was also told to wait quite bluntly with a literal finger put up at me when I was about to ask for a box to-go and ended up asking another waitress who came by. Only four tables were being used when we were there including ours so really shouldn’t have been so slow and blunt. Felt quite uncomfortable when ordering too as I cannot eat a lot of dairy so asked for vegan pizza but then was quized on why I was having ham as a topping as if I didn’t know that ham wasn’t vegan… Just wasn’t the most enjoyable experience which is sad as the food...
