Foundry Coffee — Restaurant in London

It's hard out here 🤠...

Finding a decent cup of joe round these parts is no easy feat - between the 'takeaway temples' tamping too-much coffee grounds through tarnished steel - herding sleepy commuters like cattle through their queues...

After scouring the area for months, on break after break, I finally lurch weary one morning, into an oasis? A calm & cool space, in the heat of summer - inhabited in the early hours by wholesome houseplants & soon met by an equally calm & cool Host-barista.

This is no ordinary watering hole. This is a small utopia in a chaotic cityscape, for those who know what they're looking for & how to find it. The writings on the wall under the photographed faces of regulars & revellers - this is clearly a place of community.

The Barista sizes me up quickly. He promises me the "best Mocha you've ever tasted" with a humble side-smile. I don't believe him - at first.

When I came back the next day I told Euri (our fly guy with the chai), I needed him to do better. I was lying.

I don't know how it was technically possible for him to make me a better Mocha, than the best I had ever tasted. Somehow he wrangled it.

Maybe this place is just too friendly & welcoming for this lone ranger. I am fearful what I'll be served when I tell him I need him to do one better tomorrow.

They have a lot of good reviews so clearly they're doing something right. the servers seemed patient and friendly. I came twice on my way to an nhs therapy appointment. the first time i ordered a croissant and vegan sausage roll, they brought the roll out hot on the outside and cold on the inside. no bother, they brought me another and a free ice tea. unfortunately the ice tea tasted of mostly of syrup and wasn't that cold somehow and the less said about the croissant the better. prices were decent so I thought what the hell. the second time i ordered the same thing and the server said it would take 10 mins. after 20 mins i saw them leave to end their shift. after another 10 i let the other server know. it transpired i was forgotten about. i walked out without bothering with a refund as i no longer had any time left before my appointment. i won't be going back after this. a shame because it could be a nice regular spot for me and i wanted to support an independent business. perhaps i took it too personally and im being unfair. perhaps it's a blip in an otherwise professional cafe and business. but that's none of my concern. i'll leave...

I am glad I finally got to visit this cafe, and I highly recommend you do so as well. The reviews are perfect for a reason, I haven't been asked to write this and I usually don't but it's such a positive place that I had to. Amazing selection of coffee and reasonably priced by London big business standards, I enjoyed my maple and cinnamon late and croissant. Staff are so friendly and helpful, overall a warm ambience. I wish it was opened on weekends maybe just for breakfast so I could visit more often, but I understand why it is how it is. My only suggestion would be adding another savory breakfast option to the existing 3, maybe a sourdough toast with avacado/egg/feta.
