I recently dined at Fifth Element (my second time here, the chef has been changed) and unfortunately, I must express my deep disappointment with the overall experience. From the lackluster food to the abysmal service, it was an evening that left a sour taste in my mouth.
Let's start with the food. I had high hopes for an authentic and enjoyable meal, but sadly, my expectations were far from met. We ordered the pork fillet and sausage, expecting flavors that would transport us to a culinary journey. However, the reality was starkly different. The dishes were merely average, lacking the depth and authenticity that one anticipates from a restaurant claiming to offer a memorable dining experience.
But what truly marred the evening was the service. While observing the waitstaff interact with other patrons, it was clear that they were capable of offering friendly and attentive service. However, our own experience was marked by a shocking lack of patience and respect. Our dissatisfaction peaked when we raised a genuine question about the final bill, which we had ordered through Fork. We sought clarification regarding whether the dessert was included in the offer. Instead of addressing our concerns professionally, the waiter's response was not only rude but also shockingly impolite. Such behavior was a jarring contrast to the initial interactions, and it completely ruined what was meant to be an enjoyable dinner.
It's important to note that our concern was not just about the monetary aspect, but also about our rights as customers. The restaurant's inability to acknowledge and respect this demonstrated a clear disregard for their patrons' experience. The focus seemed to be solely on making a profit, rather than creating a pleasant and customer-centered atmosphere.
I must acknowledge that the situation improved when tthe manager/boss intervened to address our concerns. They provided clarity regarding the bill and helped us understand the discrepancies. It was only after their intervention that we could finally assess the bill and confirm its accuracy. I will...
Read moreWith a name like Fifth Element in it's title & it's association with a population big budget Hollywood film with that as it's title I walked into the restaurant with a list of expectations.
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised to find no obnoxious film associated décor but a thoughtful & refreshingly decorated restaurant, not trying to be anything that it's not.
The menu offered a good choice of dishes that I imagine would offer something for everyone & anyone.
Considering the restaurants location to the beating heart of London the prices are reasonable enough to bring in locals & the quality of the food good enough to attract people from the edges of the city.
If you are on a budget (as we all are at some point or another) they seem to dedicate a table or two for discounted meals on specific days. Personally I consider that a good sign that a restaurant hasn't forgotten it's duty to serve the people that keeps it going & it's humble roots.
I am not ashamed to say, "I am a fussy dinner & proud of it", so I felt the need to offer respectful & honest feedback when the server asked for it. Don't get me wrong (& she didn't) the feedback was NOT criticism but helpful advice a suggestion if you will, of how to enhance the experience for the diner.
This feedback was taken in the spirit it was given & our server (an extremely nice & well proportioned mix of Spanish, French & Sparkling Personality) only focus was how she could improve our experience. I have to say it was nice to come across someone who clearly loves their job & tries to share that joy with others. Trust me on this after visiting a restaurant that only has badly trained staff in it coming to Fifth Element - Italian - Bar and Kitchen Waterloo is like coming home to your mums cooking & her wrapping a blanket round you while you eat.
If you have to ask, "Would you go back again?" you clearly didn't read this review properly & I suggest you read it again.

Read moreI was having a stroll through this part of London, just prior to Christmas, when I came across this delightful coffee shop, just a couple of minutes away from Waterloo station.
I popped in for a hot chocolate, and treated myself to a Crêpe, which was made with fresh batter while I was chatting to the owner, Spiros, and although I went with a simple butter and sugar topping, was divine.
I will definitely be popping back in, when visiting London again, to sample some more of what looked like a fab menu :)
20/09/2023 update
Visiting London again, I took my wife down to Fifth Element, having such a fab time previously. We went for lunch and the food and service was amazing. We had the bruschetta and halloumi to start. Both starters were done perfectly. The bruschetta was crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, without being crunchy all over, which some places do and make it hard to eat. The halloumi was coloured perfectly for a lovely taste with the mayo accompanying. Our Fifth Element burger (amazing by the way) and Ragu we superb too and we both had a lovely chat with the owners.
We visit London regularly, so this is now a must on our trips and we look forward to trying an evening meal next time we are there.
My only downside was that I wish I took some more pictures as the presentation was lovely but once we took a bite of everything, we couldn't stop eating.
Many thanks to all at Fifth Element and we look forward to catching you all...
