This is a lovely restaurant with exceptional service. We went for lunch on a Sunday and it was very crowded but we made a booking online and they reserved a booth for us as requested. The wait staff is very attentive and nice. They even had a lunch special (from noon- 5 pm) with good deals that include an appetizer, entree and drink but we both opted for a la carte menu items. I had the chicken pho (broth with rice noodles and chicken breast), and my husband had the spring rolls and Bun Bo Xao (wok fried beef with chili served with vermicelli noodles, cucumber, peanuts and fish sauce.
My husband loved his crispy spring rolls and said they were the best he's had in London. He also raved about his entree and said the beef was very tender and tasty.
I thought my broth was flavorful, the chicken breast (which can often be dry) was moist and easy to eat, and the noodles didn't stick together so overall it was a hit.
My husband had a glass of Prosecco and even loved that even though he doesn't normally drink it. I had a large bottle of water and drank all of it. Very high quality.
The booth was comfortable and the restaurant wasn't too loud despite being crowded. The toilets downstairs (where they also have additional seating) were spotless and very upscale. Everything impressed us at Go and we would highly recommend...
Read moreIf it weren’t for avoiding a horrendous meal elsewhere, I might not have had the pleasure of eating at Gỗ. This was my last night in London, so I was hellbent on making my final meal count. Deciding to leave Rocca immediately after seeing what was placed in front of me, I opted to cross the road and check this place out. Gỗ to the rescue! I’d discovered it searching for alternatives whilst waiting nearly an hour for my food at said restaurant. Fortunately, it was rather late at this point, so I was able to be seated right away. Despite Vietnamese being my favourite cuisine, I was yet to enjoy it in a high-end capacity. Opting for the Summer Food Festival option, I ordered the 2-course for a very reasonable £22.80. Served with a refreshing Prosecco Lemongrass Bubble cocktail, it also came with a complementary ga nuong sa skewer. I started with the Sirloin Beef Salad, though every option sounded equally mouthwatering. For the main, the Multiplex Seafood Platter cooked with pineapple, fresh chili with steamed rice was a no-brainer. For a fine-dining experience, the amount of food was perfect. Just make sure to ask for a spoon to shamelessly scoop up any delicious nước chấm or sauce left over. The service here was attentive and you could sense the pride they had in their food, which...
Read moreIt was our first time going to Gỗ and it was my friend’s first time trying Vietnamese food, so we were pretty excited. We were seated and picked our drinks - sadly Vietnamese coffee was nice but overly strong in a small glass - ice was not large cubes but seems almost slushy.
We picked spring rolls and ribs as our appetisers and they were delicious. So we are off to a semi good start, up until our mains came - I picked chicken pho and my friend picked Saigon chicken & egg fried rice. My pho was quite well balanced with the bean sprouts, lime, chilli and broth. Sadly my friend’s Saigon chicken was overly salty, in fact disgustingly salty. We asked the staff if this was normal but chef said that’s how it is. We spoke to the manager who was kind but brushed it off as normal too. He said we should have asked to have it less salty but how could we have known? Not everyone is Vietnamese and it should be toned down for others.
My friend’s speculation was the chef might not stirred it well enough to distribute the salt evenly. Some bits of chicken was more salty than others. But still if a customer says it’s salty, something should have been done about it.
I would say the restaurant is not the full Vietnamese experience, it’s not quite authentic as I’d...
