The food was succulent, and the freshness was evident, with each dish made to order. No doubt about the quality.
However, it is a bit pricey. While I understand the imported seasonings from Japan argument, this doesn’t fully justify the elevated menu prices to be fair, as I didn’t notice a distinct added value from these imported ingredients. If they had contributed a unique flavor to each dish compared to locally-sold Japanese seasonings, I would have understood the cost better.
The restaurant’s decor is somewhat plain and lacks authentic Japanese elements. Felt like we were eating in a random standard restaurant. I would suggest enhancing the ambiance to reflect a traditional Japanese setting. It would help justify the prices too, and create a more immersive cultural experience, complementing the story of the imported seasonings, and not making the seasoning alone weight the high prices.
In summary, the food was delightful and worth savoring, but the high prices and lack of substantial portions made it difficult to fully enjoy without considering the cost. We ended up eating at other restaurant around to satisfy our hunger, despite the quite...
Read moreWe'd been at the classic cars and vinyl records fair at Duke of London and fancied a walk by the river. In Ferry Quays by the marina we came across this place and really fancied a gyoza snack (we got our own gyoza folder gadget recently but haven't mastered the technique). We shared 12 pork, cabbage, ginger and garlic gyoza (for £12 incl sauce) and they were absolutely delicious, folded deep fried little dumplings with an explosion of lovely tastes inside, as well as good value. A real treat, sitting out in the sun. We were amazed to hear they opened back in August 2023 - that shows how long it takes a new restaurant to become established (we live near La Rosetta in Brentford, which has gathered a loyal customer base over decades). I don't know much about Japanese food and will need to look up some of their meals, eg I now know that wagami is a type of kelp. We'll be back for a more substantial meal and they also do click and collect takeaways (we avoid using the delivery companies as they charge food outlets such big commissions). Gyoza San is definitely an interesting addition to our fast increasing local...
Read moreWe keep coming back to this excellent restaurant time after time. They look simple and modern, however food is authentic and tasty, whilst a large selection of sake. Likely best selection you can get in London and UK.
They recently launched a pre order only sake pairing with food tasting menu. 5 courses paird with 5 sake, bargain price for what you can get. Without spoiling too much, you will find dishes that look common turned out taste different because of clever twists and/or sake pairing make them extraordinary, you will find authentic japanese dishes not widely available in many restaurants. You will defo learn more about sake, how food make sake taste different and how sake make food taste different. Such an amazing experience. I highly recommend this journey to anyone enjoy sake and/or authentic japanese food. There are much more to Japanese food than sushi & sashimi, just like there are more to English food than...
