If you’re after an impromptu coffee or brunch joint around King’s Cross, Half Cup is a solid shout. That being said, we turned up fifteen minutes before opening and there was already a crowd gathering. Ten minutes later and the place was packed with that familiar mid-morning brunch buzz — always a good sign if you ask me.
The menu is huge with plenty of variety. Whether you’re feeling sweet, savoury, or somewhere in between, you’ll find something that’ll catch your eye.
I went straight in for the Fried Chicken and Waffle and honestly, words don’t do it justice. Buttermilk-marinated chicken thighs on a house waffle, drenched in gochujang sauce and a generous hit of kimchi mayo. Crispy, juicy, fiery, comforting — basically everything you want on a slightly grey London morning.
And don’t even get me started on the matcha line-up. I ordered the Mango oat matcha and it was heavenly. Smooth, sweet, and looked epic — it felt almost criminal to drink it (almost).
The only slight niggle? The seating layout is a little tight — chairs and tables fighting for space — but it’s a small price to pay for a place with this much charm and atmosphere. Once you’re settled, it’s easy to forget about the squeeze.
All in all, Half Cup nails it. Great food, great coffee, great vibe. Top up your caffeine levels, fill your belly, and get on with your day feeling smug. We’ll...
Read moreWe are locals who have visited half cup many times over the past few years. We normally love coming here because the staff are incredibly friendly and attentive! Sadly we had a really disappointing visit today.
The lady who served us had no customer service skills and looked quite frankly fed up. I found a hair in my food (which wasn’t mine as my hair was tired up and longer than the one I found) and decided to flag it up. No apology was issued whatsoever but they offered to make the dish again for me. When it came the sausage was not hot in both dishes and I’d been given the ends of the tomatoes(see picture). When asked how our meal was at the end I gave some honest feedback. Again, no real attempt to acknowledge what I’d said but a mumbled response that they would ‘let the chef know’.
When we asked for the bill we were completely forgotten about (despite the cafe being nearly empty) and had to ask again to pay. No discount was applied in the bill (which was maybe expected - given we’ve been before and had a meal taken off the bill when some eggshell was found).
The prices also seem to go up every time we visit. When you pay £16.50 for a breakfast bun you should expect at least hot food!
Overall really disappointing! Normally love this place but feels as if the staff were untrained and a...
Read moreRandomly walking the streets of London and saw a line forming outside of Half Cup. Decided to wait in line; the menu looked good so we decided to give it a try. We were able to sit down after 25 minutes of waiting. Restaurant was busy so it took a while for someone to come to our table. We ordered the 2 for £15 mimosa, Pistachio Cream Waffle, Eggs on Toast one poached and one fried, with a side of bacon and hash browns. We also saw some pastries while waiting and got an order of the chocolate croissant and brownie cheesecake.
The mimosas came out with a cute presentation of rose petals, but there was too much in the cup. Not able to have a sip without getting the petals in your mouth. The chocolate croissant was very good but could have been warmed up; we were not a fan of the brownie. They then brought out our meals. The waffles also had some inedible flowers on my plate and just a lot going on but def an instagrammable photo. Wasn’t a huge fan of what I ordered. I wish I got to try the fried chicken & waffles instead. The eggs and bread were basic but cooked perfectly. Also enjoyed the hash browns; they were actually very good. The bacon was okay, much different than the bacon we have in the US.
All in all, I think this place is just an Instagram/Tik Tok hot spot. Nothing special about...
