A wholesome little cafeteria-style eatery with tasty, affordable Indian offerings.
Food was fresh and well made, though a bit lacking in spice for what I've come to expect from Indian cuisine (I'm sure I could've asked for it though!). I had the roti wrap, and also ordered three pakoras and a samosa, which came to an amazing value of £21 (along with a coffee and a can of Coke). Great affordable vegan food, especially for Kings Cross! I would've liked if the pakoras were warmed up, but I really can't complain much there.
Service was quick and the owner was so very friendly and greeted me with a huge smile. The atmosphere felt like a cross between an Indian school cafeteria and a yoga studio, and was a quiet reprieve from the crowds before catching the Eurostar.
I love to see that vegan offerings in London aren't limited to just super chic and expensive restaurants (though they have a place in my heart too!). Thenga was a wholesome place and I'm happy to support the independent...
Read moreI have given 5 stars to all given what it is. So here is the breakdown Food: The food is classic home fare. No pomp and show. Mildly spicy, if you have Indian taste, it might appear on 'bland' side. However, it is pure in its form, without colors or additives. It's how mother would have made, just a little less flavorful or spicy. Still good. Service: Personal attention and caring owners. I arrived after closing and the owner still made me a dish.Brought me water and gave me free sides. Atmosphere: It's a basic cafeteria style, like a school canteen. The cafe is located within a YMCA. Not for a romantic date but who knows your date might be happy coming here. Bottom line, if you are looking for home cooked, wholesome food, definitely go here. If you are looking for spicy flavorful dish, ask the chef to make...
Read moreReally lovely place for vegan lunch and coffee and cake. The food is delicious, and it is definitely worth having an extra samosa. The people who work here display genuine warmth for their customers and enthusiasm for the food. This contributes to the relaxed atmosphere.
Good place to bring a baby as there's plenty of space and a couple of sofas if that's more comfy for feeding. There's also a high chair.
It's accessible as there is a lift if you go in through the entrance on Cromer Street. Great for meetings.
All in all, pretty hard to beat! I'd love to see more cake options (there are usually two quite similar cakes, but perhaps I've missed something) but it's not their primary focus, so I see why they don't...
