Called down to reception on 2Sept to ask to borrow a travel adapter, and the receptionist told me (politely of course) that for those I needed to go down to get it. No problem, I hurried down and found there was a queue at the reception desks. He spotted me at the back and immediately dug the adapter out of the drawer behind him to hand to me. Top notch service there.
Reception stand at the restaurant (GA) was much worse. The waiting and kitchen staff were generally friendly and helpful, but one of the headwaitresses seemed quite reluctant to smile and the other one just told me to look for the rest of my party (they went ahead) after checking me in instead of leading me to their table.
Breakfast is quite good. Both Full English and Continental options with some delightful additions, such as the donuts/cronuts, the tarts, the fresh raw spinach, and two different types of smoothies. Good quality overall, and a very ‘aesthetic’ setting full of artificial greenery. There are large windows along the length of the restaurant, but it was quite dim otherwise.
The lifts are a bit wobbly but I’ve never had to wait long for one. The lobby area on the 15th floor had large curved windows facing the British Library and a two seater sofa.
Our room (double bed with sofa bed) had 3 main areas. The entrance area formed a little living room sort of area, with a medium sized tv on the hallway wall, a two seater sofa, and a small but functional coffee table. Then the bathroom, then the ‘bedroom’ area with the promised double (actually king-sized?) bed on the far end. You essentially get two rooms separated by a shared bathroom.
The bathroom design isn’t as clever though. There’s a walk in shower, a bit more than 5 feet deep with roughly half of it blocked off by a glass wall. It’s not enough to keep water from splashing out the open area, even though the handheld showerhead (basically a rubber donut with holes on the underside) feels like another rain shower with barely any water pressure. There is one towel rail at the end of the shower and no clothesline, and very little storage area otherwise. The worst part, however, are the bathroom doors - not only do they not lock, there are two doors with a gap between the two sides. Everything inside could be heard through the gap .
There are USB outlets and plug sockets, only one of which is above a tabletop (it’s the one for the kettle). The others are all either beneath a desk or down the side of the bedside tables facing the beds, so good luck if your cables are short or stiff. The bedside tables are tiny, and the storage underneath them tinier - unless your handbag is the uselessly tiny kind don’t expect to fit it in there. Same goes for the long counter that runs the length of the room: it’s quite narrow, good for a purse but not clothes. Table space isn’t too much of a problem, but your storage space is mostly restricted to the smallish closet with the tiny 4-layer shelf, of which only the second is left empty for your things.
There is a tag you could hang on your door to ‘cut your carbon footprint’ by skipping the daily room clean. Barely anyone used it, which makes sense. There is nowhere to hang used towels to allow them to dry properly, but even if I did not need anything replenished I would still want my room vacuumed at the very least, and the tag seems to suggest the cleaners would just skip your room altogether? The cleaner we met (it was the same lady every time) was lovely though: had a smile for us every time we met, and remembered to leave us more water the day we didn’t catch her. The room had both a pen (with a stylus end) and a mechanical pencil. The free minibar has only tea, instant coffee and water.
As for the area, it’s a great tranportation hub, right between Euston and King’s Cross, but not much else. There’s a nice big Waitrose supermarket only about 10 minutes’ walk away though.
Overall, generally lovely staff, atmospheric lobby/restaurant and a room that has some clever touches but also some areas that fell short (especially at...
Read morePullman is located close to 2 stations, Euaton and St.Pancras-King's Cross. Not only do you have easy access to so many different train lines, it is also close to food and marts for convinience. Room we had was the twin bed standard - 2 rooms for 4 adults and 4 nights. Bed was comfy, pillows were nice. Bathroom was alright, and water pressure was strong. They offered free water upon arrival. As for the service, now this was a letdown, a disgrace to the Pullman Hotel name. Upon arrival, the front desk hurriedly checked us in. Did't even mention my Accor plus gold member status, told us there were 4 welcome drinks for the 4 adults, made payment then off you go. I just thought the guy was lazy. Second night in, my travel agent (australia) asked me to have the hotel call to confirm the taxi booking that has been made. When i went to the lobby, there was no patron in sight and it was quiet. I walked over, and ask if he could help with the task. He asks me if this was the hotel who booked. I said no, it was booked by my agent, but I am unsure how to confirm the booking eg am i able to call outside line from my room or if he can help. He looks at me and says "no, i cannot help because its not a hotel booking. You need to call them yourself." So i repeated to him that he is unable to make a phone call? I showed him the phone number looks to me like a london number. "He says yes, i cannot make the phone call since you made the booking. I can only let you use my phone, and points at the reception desk phone. Or use your hotel room phone if it works or your mobile." i ask him again do you think the office is still open. He goes getting annoyed, " i dont know." I dont him, i will just call in the morning. I have never seen any front desk from any hotels that i have stayed at both in australia, asia and europe who is as unhelpful as he was. What would happen if you are a guest that doesn't speak english well - too bad so sad? I asked him, as a gold accor plus member, can i get a late check out. He says call in the morning and ask them. I asked can you not pit a note or something to call me back. He goes flat no. Sorry, I was asking him to do some work. My next encounter again with another front desk. I walked in as she and the bellhop were chatting. I had come to ask for a bottle opener for my room as i had bought beer bottles from outside. She looks at me and says " you need to ask the bar". I looked at her surprised, normally reception would be like i am help ask room service or something. I said to her, but this is to bring to the room? She says " i dont have any here at front desk" and smirks, bellhop beside her smirks as well. Looks like she was uninterested in helping since i distrupted their chat. I asked her if i went up to the room and asked for a bottle opener, will they bring it up instead? She shrugged and said "sure". Luckily, room service has better people. They said normally they wouldnt leave the bottle opener in the room however seeing as I wasnt planning on calling them every time to open my beer. They found me one, brought it to my room and told me i could keep it in the room for the duration of my stay. All nights i was in the hotel. I never asked the night front desk for help. I guess no one does bec they were never busy and always chatting. I mean with attitudes like that, which guest would want to. I had better service in Ibis than here. Probably the worst experience in a Pullman ever. Only saving grace was Taylor or Tyler (i think is his name, had afro style hair). He was amazing. I asked him the same question I did previously. Like any good hotel, he immidately helped me call the taxi company and even help me confirm my booking. Kudos to him. Bellhop was helpful and housekeeping did...
Read moreWhile the location and staff were amazing, there were some big downsides which made our stay difficult. The first big thing was the fact our room was so hot. On its own without the heating on, the room was sweltering if the curtains and double windows were not kept shut, and very warm even when they were. We had to have a fan running continuously (which we had to wait hours for) to keep the room comfortable. Keep in mind, it was April, not very warm out. This is something to note when your room is assigned- any rooms facing Euston are going to have the sun hitting them and heating them up (also, the sirens are loud going down Euston all night). When we first arrived (we paid for early check in so we could rest after our long flight) but the room was at least 90 degrees Fahrenheit and the heat was on. Because of this we had to go out until evening, and upon our return wait for the fan, and then have our door open to suck the cooler hallway air in. Not ideal. We didn’t sleep well as the room remained pretty hot for the next 48 hours. Window was broken and not able to open to cool things down.
Next, if you’re visiting with your family, especially young toddlers, know that the bathrooms don’t lock, and you’ll have to baby proof everything. I had to keep the phone unplugged, and the mini fridge was a just didn’t use because he was in and out of it. The countertop that runs around the wall in the suitesis pretty low and walking babies can reach anything on it, so there’s not many safe surfaces to have anything on. The rooms seemed fairly soundproofed which was a plus, but again the emergency vehicle noise from Euston was very loud.
Our 2 year old also found medication on the floor behind the drapes, which I saw thankfully before he could eat it, so although the room was fairly clean it obviously wasn’t thoroughly checked between stays.
Our pullout couch was broken. The bed was out and made for us, but it was obviously warped and bowed. Our older son didn’t want to sleep on it since it felt like sitting in a crater, so when we went to fold it in so we could use the space to live in. we saw a few hinges were broken and we couldn’t even use it as a couch instead, so in essence the extra space/beds we paid for in the suite was useless, 3 of us ended up sharing the one bed. I wished we had just gotten a regular room and felt I wasted a lot of money. Fixtures were also kind of worn and water damaged which isn’t a big deal itself, but just adds to...
