I can't wait to go back and hope this place is around for a very long time. The concept is MAGICAL.
I had dinner with two friends and it was perfect for a catch-up - the decor is chic, the interior layout is intimate, the menu beautifully curated. The food was utterly stunning - truly first class fine dining fare that you would expect to pay top £ for in Mayfair - but at only £35 for three courses, it was a steal.
I was curious to see how the concept of 'being staffed entirely by homeless people' would unfold and what you get is the joy of playing your part in a glorious training experience.
The staff I encountered were, smart, enthusiastic and attentive, but in some ways delightfully clueless - which gave our meal a 'team bonding' atmosphere. We were rooting for our server and more than happy to give space and time for the trainer to offer guidance as he learned on the job (this was his first day front of house and he was nailing it). With that said, minus some of the slick 'Mayfair' pomp, absolutely nothing was lacking from our service - not one thing missed.
I am delighted to have lent support to a scheme that gives people a dignified leg-up from homelessness and offers them skills and community, as well as a decent wage - and enjoyed some of the tastiest dishes in the process.

Read moreWe had a relatively early dinner reservation so were able to choose our table, which was nice, the restaurant filled up quite quickly which was great to see, but then it felt a little like we had gate-crashed a "friends and family" dinner as it seemed that everyone around us was enthusiastically greeted and offered a complimentary glass of champagne and introduced to the waiter, Michael. Had we known that we could have had a glass of champagne (not complimentary), we would have happily ordered and paid for one. We also weren't asked if we had any allergies or dietary requirements, which is unusual.
Michael, our waiter, was very good, asked the kitchen a couple of questions on our behalf and was attentive throughout.
We had the mackerel starter which was outstanding, I had the brill, kohlrabi and mussels, which was delicious, the fish cooked beautifully, however, it was cold by the time it was served to me, ditto the chicken, it was delicious but lukewarm. The lemon tart for dessert was amazing.
We are pleased to have another excellent, local restaurant to replace Odettes and we will definitely be back soon (not least to remedy the fact that we underpaid on service, which was an error and not a reflection on our evening at all, so sorry...
Read moreWe went with our family for Sunday roast very excited to try this new addition to the neighborhood. The staff were really friendly and even accommodated our dog. Unfortunately, food-wise, this was the worst meal I’ve had in my life! It was so bad it was almost comical: my beef roast (10 pounds supplement) was a cold slice of undercooked tough beef covered with processed-tasting gravy. The only other thing on the plate: a small Yorkshire pudding that had been sitting there for a while. In the centre of the table, green beans that tasted like plastic. The roast potatoes were good but few, and there was also a mash of carrot and sweet potato and - what it turns out - cauliflower, but when we asked the waitress what it was she couldn’t really say - so I tried it and guess what? I can’t eat cauliflower so it would have been nice to know. The kids beef roast had a carrot on them. Mine didn’t. Theirs was more cooked but way tougher. My husband had a chicken that he shared with me since my beef was terrible, but I took a bite and it tasted off. We just asked for the bill and left… very disappointing! If “fine dining” means small portions of mediocre food, then this new place, despite its noble credentials/intentions, is way...
